It used to be that when a game launched, that was it. You were stuck playing the version available on the disc or download. As gaming has evolved, so have the updates. Bug squashing and patch fixes too have evolved, sometimes changing the game altogether. Biomutant is one such title that aims to benefit from the modern practice of providing full overhaul style updates. From the game’s official Twitter account, Biomutant noted some major updates to the game, including graphics, narration, and combat....

It made all the sense in the world when Polish studio Bloober Team revealed its plans for a psychological horror game inspired by the Blair Witch franchise. The studio’s brilliant Layers Of Fear games are some of the most artful horror games ever made, and The Blair Witch Project is one of the most influential horror movies of all time, so this pairing of franchise and studio seemed absolutely ideal....

The Overwatch Closed Beta will begin in both the Americas and Europe on October 27, Blizzard has announced. Players will be added to the beta gradually as more and more features are ready to test. “We’re aiming to accomplish two primary goals with our public beta test: First, get tons of top-notch feedback on the gameplay – including balance, feel, and fun – to help us make Overwatch the best team-based shooter on the planet,” explains Blizzard in a new blog post....

One of the beauties of modding is getting the chance to come up with completely new assets for a game. Microsoft’s popular flying sim launched on PC with only three default airliners (and two if you don’t have the Premium Deluxe edition). Now, as reported by Just Flight, one of the most legendary designs is in the works for Microsoft Flight Simulator — the Boeing 757. Dubbed the “Flying Pencil” for its extremely narrow and slender shape, the 757 is often considered to be almost ‘over-engineered....

Borderlands 3 officially launched this morning and, as has become franchise staple, players are already desperate to learn how to skip the game’s intro cutscene. Cate Blanchett has officially joined the cast of director Eli Roth’s movie adaptation of the Borderlands video game franchise. According to a press release from Lionsgate, Blanchett has been cast as Lilith; “a siren and legendary thief equipped with magical skills.” Lilith initially appeared in Borderlands as a playable character, and subsequently appeared as an NPC in Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and Borderlands 3. As a member of the Crimson Raiders, she’s fondly remembered by fans for her unique abilities and for the ways that voice actress Colleen Clinkenbeard has brought her to life across the major entries in the Borderlands franchises....

Indie developers dominated the downloadable gaming scene in 2010, with games like Super Meat Boy, Raskulls and Dead Nation. Fire Hose Games is prepping to continue this domination in 2011 with their debut title Slam Bolt Scrappers. Eithan Glinert, founder and Fire Chief, describes Slam Bolt Scrappers as “an insane mash-up of building and brawling.” It looks like Fire Hose Games is aiming to make their mark with this interesting mix of puzzler and brawler....

Epic recently held the first-ever Fornite World Cup in New York City. The event, which awarded $3 million dollars to the winner, served as a representation of the cultural phenomenon that esports have become. 178 Fortnite players qualified to take part in the event. None of them were women. The creators of Bumble, the female-first dating app, took notice, and teamed up with worldwide esports organization Gen.G to build the world’s first all-female competitive Fortnite team....

It wasn’t so long ago that Destiny 2 massively surprised fans by introducing the vault and nuking most of the game’s planets from orbit. In this instance, it was not the only way to be sure. As fans now know that absolutely nothing they spend money on is safe, Bungie has announced that Destiny 2 will be losing the Forsaken campaign and Tangled Shore early next year. If you haven’t had your fill of those yet, now’s a good time to hop on in and start playing, as, at the very least, this gives you a substantial heads up to when it’s all going bye-bye....

If there’s any industry that can make it through social distancing restrictions, it’s the theater business, says AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. CEO Adam Aron. Although the 2020 fiscal year started strongly with earnings up nearly 10 percent compared to 2019, the theater chain’s revenue plunged after coronavirus-related social distancing guidelines forced all theaters to close on March 17. AMC reported a loss of $2.2 billion in the first quarter of 2020....

One thing gamers always want is more performance. So it comes as no surprise to learn AMD may have one last trick up its sleeve for the current generation of Radeon cards. According to recent rumors from WCCFTech and a leak from VideoCardz regarding the 6550 XT, the AMD Radeon 6X50 Series refresh may outright replace the existing lineup. We know some basic info from previous leaks, and it appears the refresh will be mild in terms of revisions, and the only replacements coming are the 6650 XT, 6750 XT, and 6950 XT models....

It’s barely been a week since American Truck Simulator thundered across the Texan border, but already SCS Software is setting course for a new destination, with the developer having now confirmed Oklahoma as the trucking sim’s next DLC expansion. Oklahoma will be American Truck Simulator’s 12th explorable state, joining California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Texas - and its announcement isn’t all that unexpected given SCS’ continued left-to-right march across the US, and Oklahoma slotting so neatly above the recently released Texas....

To celebrate its anniversary, developer Frictional Games shared some early game concepts on Twitter. From art style guidelines mentioning Gears of War, to the inclusion of flintlock pistols, Amnesia: The Dark Descent went through many stages during its development....

At the E3 2019 PC Gamer show, Patrice Désilets took to the stage and revealed a release date for Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. It’s going to be released on August 27, and Désilets confirmed that it’s coming to ‘PC first,’ so it’s unclear precisely when the game is coming to consoles. The game looks ambitious and crazy, which is about what you would expect from Désilets and his studio, Panache Digital Games....

New figures show Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now the best-selling game ever in Japan. The previous best selling game(s) Pokémon Red/Blue/Green shifted 10,230,000 copies, and are now in second place. New Horizons has sold 10.45m. Twitter account Game Data Library has released details of the top 20 best-selling games in the country. It’s fascinating to see all but two are Nintendo titles.
