As we reported last month, pre-loading wasn’t initially planned for Borderlands 3, due to certain limitations of the Epic Games Store launcher. This led to much outrage from fans of the franchise, as expected. Today, however, Gearbox Software announced that pre-loads will be available after all. Players will be able to pre-load roughly 48 hours ahead of the release. The exact global release times that players can expect to start playing with their digital copies are also now available, thanks to the official website....

Hub Worlds are the in between spaces that separate levels in a video game. They’ve been around forever, typically in platformers, and can be found in some of the earliest Mario and Kirby games. In modern RPGs, Hub Worlds are used to group the most important NPCs and quest-givers together, give the player concentrated access to house keeping systems like gear purchasing, and provide a combat free zone where players can regroup between missions and tinker with their menus without the worry of getting fragged by a random baddy....

A huge, 32-minute long Splatoon 3 Direct aired earlier today that showcased brand new information about the game. One of the details from this Direct is that three new Splatoon amiibo will be releasing later this year. The first amiibo is called Octoling (Blue), which is the first male Octoling amiibo figure. The second is called Inkling (Yellow), featuring the cover mascot with a brand new hairstyle and weapon. The third amiibo figure is called Smallfry, a type of Salmonid enemy from Salmon Run....

Bungie’s under-wraps work with Chinese publisher NetEase involves a mobile shooter set in the Destiny universe, a new report has claimed. Job adverts for a Destiny project were previously spotted last year by The Game Post. Required skills included a “willingness to travel to China” on a regular basis, and host Chinese partner teams. NetEase invested $100m in Bungie back in 2018, though the companies have never officially confirmed what the two are working on....

Bungie has released a statement in response to the shooting in Buffalo, and about combatting racism. The studio published a blog post in which it discussed the events in Buffalo. “Our hearts go out to the victims of this tragedy, and anyone impacted by this act of violence,” it reads. “Bungie and the Black at Bungie inclusion club have worked together to respond to this tragedy. We are currently showing our ‘Be Heard’ Pin on the front page of the Bungie Store....

EA and Criterion have announced Burnout Paradise Remastered which will initially come to consoles and then head to PC “later this year”. The console version releases on 16 March. This remaster includes the base game and eight DLC packs including the extension to the drivable world with Big Surf Island. Enhancements include hi=res textures with 4K support. “When people think of Criterion Games, they often remember the Burnout franchise and for good reason....

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Mobile, a free-to-play entry released in 2019, now has over 650 million downloads. The company also stated that the monthly active player base in 2021 “almost matched” that of its console counterparts. InnerSloth is all about keeping fans in the loop when it comes to Among Us. That’s why the developer released a quick dev log yesterday regarding its progress on an upcoming update for the social deception game. The report wasn’t too lengthy, but it did reveal some key changes on their way to Among Us, including bigger player lobbies and new crewmate colors. Nintendo has detailed the upcoming additions for Animal Crossing: New Horizons with a Halloween-flavoured update that’ll be haunting the game from next week. New features for this update include pumpkins you can grow yourself that can be used in crafting recepies for Halloween-themed decorations and seasonally-appropriate costumes to be bought from the Able Sisters store. You’ll also be able to get candy from the Nooks’ Store, naturally and prepare for a special in-game Halloween event on the big day itself, October 31 between 5pm and midnight in your local timezone....

BioWare has confirmed that matchmaking will be featured in ’every activity’ for Anthem, something which the likes Destiny hasn’t always offered. The game’s lead producer, Ben Irving, confirmed the news on Twitter when quizzed about whether public matchmaking would be available, or if players would need to form their own parties. This is obviously good news for Anthem players. As mentioned, Destiny, which offers a shared-world universe much like BioWare’s upcoming loot-hunting shooter, didn’t always offer matchmaking for certain events....

Good news, Apex Legends fans. Respawn Entertainment’s extremely successful battle royale game is making its way to Steam this fall.
