BioWare has apologised for their portrayal of the transgender NPC, Hainly Abrams, in Mass Effect: Andromeda. Taking to Twitter, BioWare issued a statement saying she ‘was not included in a caring or thoughtful way,’ before adding that the developer has spoken about the character’s representation both internally and externally, and will be making changes to her dialogue in the upcoming patch. Yesterday BioWare detailed the aforementioned patch for Mass Effect: Andromeda which includes better lip syncing for human and asari characters, as well as improved matchmaking, among many other issues that players have encountered since its release....

When Blizzard first released its initial set of official details about Overwatch 2, among those was a new game mode called Push. There’s now evidence that this may not be the only mode added to the base Overwatch game once it’s overtaken by its sequel. A job posting on the Blizzard website looking for an Overwatch 2 game designer includes, among other responsibilities, designing and implementing new game modes. Push, the already-announced game mode, takes place on a symmetrical map, on which teams must push a robot toward their team’s end goal....

Sega is learning, once more, that if it keeps sitting on its old franchises, someone will eventually turn up and show the company how it’s done. Today, that franchise is Jet Set Radio, and the studio stepping up is Team Reptile. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, however, is more than a mere spiritual successor to SmileBit’s greatest work. It is Jet Set Radio in everything but name. The game looks like a modern JSR and it sounds like it too, as Team Reptile confirmed the original composer of the Dreamcast classic is on board to whip out those funky fresh Beats....

AMD had a strong showing at Computex 2021. It revealed a new prototype 3D packaging method for its Ryzen CPUs that speeds up gaming performance, consumer-oriented APUs, and its DLSS competitor known as FidelityFX Super Resolution. If that wasn’t enough already, there’s also major news that RDNA 2 mobile graphics cards for the Radeon RX 6000 Series will power AMD laptops. These all-AMD laptops (in regards to the chips, not the full systems) will target 1080p and 1440p gaming....

Mobile tech company AppLovin has scrapped its plans to buy video game engine Unity, following a failed - and unsolicited - bid last month worth $17.5bn. AppLovin announced it was backing off in a statement last night (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz), saying it had instead decided to remain on “its path as the independent market leader”. Unity rejected AppLovin’s bid within a week of it being made, and stated at the time it was “not in the best interests of Unity shareholders”....

Ubisoft has released a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming action-adventure game Assassin’s Creed: Origins. The trailer gives us our first look at the Order of the Ancients, the malevolent organisation who are Bayek’s enemies in Origins. The Order of the Ancients are a mysterious group who are seeking to obtain the power of the ancient Gods of Egypt. The secretive organisation manipulate the Pharaoh from behind the scenes, pulling his strings like a puppet-master....

Since introducing the “new” Assassin’s Creed in 2017 with Origins, Ubisoft has been on a roll. Both Origins and Odyssey have been incredibly popular games, with Odyssey remaining one of the twenty best selling games in America since it’s release in October of 2018. Part of this is due to Ubisoft’s investment in the game’s continued stories. Both the Fates of Atlantis and The Lost Tales of Greece have only been going on for months, continuing to give users reasons to buy the game or return to it over time....

This year’s Assassin’s Creed movie isn’t going to make Ubisoft a lot of money, the publisher has acknowledged. Instead, the intention for the film is to put the franchise in front of more people and attract them into buying next year’s game. Discussing the movie with MCV, Ubisoft EMEA executive director Alain Corre explained: “We are not going to earn a lot of money from it. It is a lot more a marketing thing, it is also good for the image of the brand....

Ubisoft has announced the contents for the latest 1.1.2 title update to Viking epic Assassin’s Creed Valhalla which includes a new mode, new skills and abilities and more. The headline addition of the free 11-19GB (depending on platform) update is the River Raid mode, which offers you and your Jomsviking crew new, replayable raiding opportunities across unexplored regions of England with plenty of new loot and rewards up for grabs, alongside extra challenges....

Last year, Square Enix and Platinum Games announced that they were working together on a new game called Babylon’s Fall. Since then, however, zero mention has been made of its existence, leaving people to wonder if we would ever hear from it again. Larian Studios held its “Panel from Hell” today to discuss various aspects of development for the highly anticipated Baldur’s Gate III release. The panel featured several prominent individuals involved in the project from developers to voice actors. The most notable announcement was the mention that the previously delayed Early Access version had a new target release date....
