As part of our countdown to Twinfinite’s Game of the Year award, it’s time to take a look back at 2022 and pick out the best games from each genre. We saw a ton of big RPG releases this year, and it took some time, but we’ve finally narrowed down our top five picks. Without further ado, here are the best RPGs of 2022 as voted on by our staff and editors....

Three seasons in, Showtime’s popular drama series Billions tends to operate in one of two ways. Either the main characters finally put their grandiose plans for revenge into action and achieve the desired results, or these heavily-plotted exercises in vengeance quickly transform into egregious self-owns perpetrated by the very people they were trying to put one over. This is precisely what happened to longtime rivals Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) and billionaire hedge fund manager Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Damian Lewis) at the end of season three, and they’re both furious about it....
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s ‘Awakening’ DLC will be the first and last piece of DLC released for the shooter on PS3, Activision has confirmed. Future Black Ops 3 DLC, including the three expansion packs planned for release later this year, will not be available on last-gen. The release of Awakening on PS3 comes as somewhat of a surprise, of course, after it was previously believed to be exclusive to current-gen consoles and PC....
Hot off the enduring success of Skul: The Hero Slayer, South Korean publisher Neowiz is back with another side-scrolling action rogue-lite. Blade Assault enters Early Access today, bringing with it tons of hacking and slashing, as well as hours of upgrades to farm currency for. It’s already quite enjoyable and seems like Neowiz could have another hit on its hands, but the question stands: is Blade Assault worth it? Blade Assault opens with the player character, Kil, stuck in a cell....
Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition didn’t have the smoothest launch. Hardcore fans of the original release found the updated version to be a step back in many ways. With that said, a recent patch for Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition introduces plenty of fixes and additions that improve the experience. Even after this update, Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition has far to go. And to the credit of Nightdive Studios, it understands that. In the patch notes for the upcoming update, the developer also includes additions to come in the next patch....
Now that Borderlands 3 is here, reviving the series after lying dormant for years, the race is on for players to find the weirdest, wildest, and wackiest firearms the game has to offer. And considering Borderlands 3 has a gun with legs, that bar is incredibly high. Yet perhaps the one that truly encapsulates the series’ obsession with guns galore, the quintessential Borderlands gun, is one that Gearbox has been hyping for months....
Brawlhalla is coming to mobile and it’s bringing full crossplay with it. Smash Bros. tends to take up the lion’s share of the brawler fighting game sub-genre, but there’s another game that follows the same formula that you should definitely check out. It’s called Brawlhalla from Blue Mammoth Games, and it’s a free-to-play brawler that will ignite your fighting spirit if you’re done with Nintendo. Released in October of 2017, Brawlhalla is like Smash Bros....
Well here it is, the next iteration in the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops. Once again, the developer Treyarch (makers of Call of Duty 3 and World at War) will be taking the reigns, showing the world what they do best. Interestingly enough, details on Call of Duty 7 leaked a month ago which indicated the title of the next CoD game would be “Black Ops” and detailed many of the games features - that report turned out to be exactly the case....
Alluris is one of the many games being shown at this year’s PAX West. Being at the show must be both crazy exciting and immensely nerve-wracking for the developers. On one hand, they’re showing off their creation to a huge crowd of potential players. On the other, they have a lot of competition. In just a matter of weeks, virtual truckers will get to experience the beauty of SCS’ take on the state of Montana. Affectionately known as The Treasure State, Montana is home to just a notch over 1 million people. Many horror games exist to shock and terrify as they push you through macabre worlds brimming with dangers lurking in the dark. Last year’s Amnesia: Rebirth managed to do all that but brought with it an intriguing story. Unfortunately, as is the nature of games like this, the fear of “death by monster” likely kept some players from discovering all the pieces of lore peppered throughout the game. Developer Frictional Games, however, has an option for those who only want to experience the game’s narrative....
Even though the popularity of the Souls-like sub-genre has arguably reached saturation point, there’s still a healthy appetite for punishing action-RPGs that require your blood, sweat and tears. Case in point: a certain Souls-like has wiggled its way out of the woodwork and managed to land a top 5 spot on Steam’s Weekly Global Top Sellers List. Specifically, the game in question is Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which has jumped up from the eighth best-selling PC game last week to nabbing the fifth spot, according to PC analytics site SteamDB....
BioWare has added four new Mass Effect-themed skins to Anthem in celebration of N7 Day, a day dedicated to the original trilogy of Mass Effect (via Destructoid). N7 Day is plain ol’ November 7 to you and me, and Anthem will be painting the town red, white, and carbon fibre black until November 12. These new skins are priced at 61,000 coins using in-game currency, or players are able to shell out about £8....
The Second Anniversary Collection Event is live in Apex Legends, and there are plenty of skins for you to collect. There are two ways to earn these shiny new cosmetics, playing and paying. There are 31 free items you can earn for free, which is actually nine more than advertised when the event was announced. Plus, if you’re willing to pay, there are 24 purchasable items available. The cosmetics you can buy are largely recolors of skins from previous events....
An often unanimous conclusion among fans of Assassin’s Creed is that Ezio Auditore de Firenze was the best protagonist in the series. Having followed the character right from his birth into his last day as an assassin, fans have had enough material to make hundreds of memes out of Ezio. This past weekend, Enthusiast Gaming held its annual EGLX convention in Toronto, Canada. An event dedicating to all of Enthusiast’s various achievements, Destructoid managed to grab an interview with ex-Ubisoft developer Patrice Désilets. Known for creating both Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and the Assassin’s Creed series, he gave a retrospective talk on Saturday that went over how he entered game development and what he’s been up to in the years since leaving Ubisoft....
Ubisoft revealed “Ezio’s Roman Set,” a new item pack that came to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in patch 1.5.3 (via Destructoid). Released yesterday, it addresses a small number of issues, like graphics card crashes when entering Elysium, the incessant “New Content” notification, and an incorrect description for Legendary chest maps in the Spanish version of the game. It’s a chunky update, too, clocking in at around four gigabytes for each of the respective platforms....
Clues and Riddles is a main quest in the Glowecestrescire region. As a part of the Clues and Riddles quest, you will have to solve Halewyn riddles in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Halewyn is a druid in the game, who will ask you to help him with his rituals and a riddle. Solving the riddle will complete the quest and let you progress further in the game. But the quizzes and puzzles in AC Valhalla can be challenging....
