Respawn has finally broken its long silence regarding the future of Apex Legends, updating its player base on some exciting upcoming changes. The announcement was dropped on Twitter and players can expect the new features to go live on December 3rd. The new additions are attractive, as players will now have the ability to rank up to level 500. This is certainly a welcome change, as many players have been stuck on the maximum level of 100 for quite a while — their experience points going nowhere....

At the moment, Apex Legends can be quite an overwhelming experience for some. There is a general tutorial mode that teaches you the basics, but then the game thrusts you right into the action without getting in a little bit of practice. Fortunately, it sounds like the team at Respawn may be changing this sometime in the future. Due to a “popular request” from the fans, the tutorial mode will see some changes in an upcoming update....

PS Plus users will be able to download three free PS4 games next month, Sony has announced, including rogue-like FPS Tower of Guns, hand-drawn action platform Aaru’s Awakening and ‘atmospheric puzzle platformer’ Never Alone. Tower of Guns and Aaru’s Awakening will also be available to PS3 users alongside previously announced Dishonored. PS Vita players, meanwhile, get handheld shooter Killzone Mercenary and puzzle-platformer MonsterBag. And don’t forget Woah Dave will also be available for free on PS4 as a “secret” PS Plus game....

Wild Bunch Productions and Yukikaze just completed their successful joint Kickstarter campaign for Armed Fantasia and Penny Blood. Fans have pledged a total of 379,328,385 yen to the two games, which equates to approximately $2.6 million. All the stretch goals announced by the developers have been achieved, including the latest ones at $1.66 million for Armed Fantasia and $899,000 for Penny Blood. The success of the Kickstarter campaign should not surprise, due to their pedigree....

It isn’t difficult to figure out where Blazing Chrome took its influence. Even a cursory glance at a screenshot or snippet of gameplay footage unearths fond memories of Konami’s classic shooters. Without argument, Blazing Chrome is a joyous ode to Contra and other run-and-gun, one-shot-and-you’re-dead games that thrilled and angered many like me in our youth. The game follows the memorable formula to a science, from its faithful and attractive 16-bit pixelated art style to its grotesque boss fights and grueling difficulty....

Despite an apology from Blizzard Entertainment president J. Allen Brack during the opening of last week’s BlizzCon event for the way the company responded to pro-Hong Kong remarks made by Hearthstone pro-Blitzchung, Brack has since confirmed that the controversial ban that ensued will remain in place. Initially, Blizzard issued a year-long ban to both Blitzchung and two on-stream casters whose interview led to Blitzchung’s brief pro-Hong Kong declaration. Whether or not the casters knew the content of Blitzchung’s ensuing remarks is up for debate, but both Blizzard and many posters online (even some who are in opposition to the ban) do seem to agree that the casters had some role in the message making it to air....

Early reviews of Bloodborne suggest Sony has a winner on its hands, with the game earning a place atop Metacritic as the highest-rated title available exclusively on current-gen platforms. Reviews of From Software’s latest went live earlier this morning with critics already calling it “one of the best action games of the generation” and an “epic, compelling, heart-pounding triumph”. Our review-in-progress labelled it “the best game on PS4”. The game currently has a 93 Metacritic rating....

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the spiritual successor to Castlevania (which we definitely hadn’t forgotten about after it was Kickstarted two years ago, and delayed last year) has a new E3 trailer showing off some gameplay. Principally the brain child of Koji Igarashi, known for his work on the Castlevania series, Bloodstained was a big hit on Kickstarter, and was originally planned to release in March 2017. It’s now going to launch on PC and console some time in 2018....

Yesterday, the Borderlands Twitter account released a new trailer for the swampy planet Eden-6, one of the new worlds that players will sojourn on their journey through the upcoming Borderlands 3. Despite its name, Eden-6 looks anything but utopian. Marshy and murky, yet the Jakobs family have built a home here off of the killing they make as a highly successful weapons manufacturer. Rooming with the munitions heir Wainwright Jakobs are Sir Hammerlock and Lady Aurelia Hammerlock from Borderlands 2, but they aren’t alone....

Jonathan Blow has been forced to borrow money in order to finish development of The Witness after sales of his smash hit Braid slowed to the point that the revenue was no longer sufficient to fund the team. Braid cost Blow around $200,000 and went on to transform the dev into a millionaire. But all this is now on the line in an effort to complete The Witness. “Braid still sells well on platforms that are thriving, but two of Braid’s big platforms were the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, both of which are sunsetting at this point,” Blow told Engadget....
