Blizzard Entertainment has no ‘frontline release’ in the pipeline for this year, which is fancy PR talk for saying Diablo 4 won’t be out anytime soon. Speaking during Activision Blizzard’s latest earnings call overnight, studio overlord Coddy Johnson said (via Polygon), ‘We expect materially lower financial performance this year. 2018 benefited from the release of World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, whereas we are not planning a major frontline release for 2019....

Blizzard has started up a new thread tree to find your old friends and guild mates, just ahead of the upcoming release of World of Warcraft Classic. Serving like a multi-branched personals section, the tree serves to find old guildmates from the original vanilla run of WoW, from 2004-2006. All handily linked, you start by choosing whether you were Alliance or Horde, then the type of server you were on–normal, role-play, PvP, or RP/PvP....

Last month, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier tweeted that Blizzard was coming out of its “dry spell” and was set to release “a bunch of new games”, with an accompanying link to tonight’s mobile Warcraft announcement. Red Meat Games’ Bring To Light is part horror survival, part puzzler, mixed with a dash of stealth. After a crash on the subway leaves you stranded (and somehow completely alone), you have to navigate the tunnels and beyond to find your way out. As you venture through the area, you suddenly realize that you aren’t alone after all. A blend of suspense and survival set in a dark and murky underground, this game is likely best played in its VR mode with the unique heart monitoring setup....

For those of you hoping to see a release of Destiny 2: The Collection for consoles and PC — it looks like you’re going to keep waiting. There was some hope with the appearance of some PEGI ratings, suggesting that the all-in-one collection would come to the PC front. Bungie announced today the date and specifics of its migration of Destiny 2 from Battle.net, where it first launched in September 2017, to Steam. Following the split between Bungie and Activision announced earlier this year, the developer has taken many steps to assert its newfound independence. Last month, it had a long stream to announce the upcoming expansion Shadowkeep and discuss the next chapter of Destiny 2, reassuring players that it still has a lot to offer....

At a time in which major game publishers seem desperate to one-up each other’s catastrophic PR fiascos, Blizzard has seemingly cornered the market on controversy in 2019. For those unaware of what’s transpired in the past few days, Blizzard has caught an overwhelming amount of flack for essentially kowtowing to Chinese censorship after the winner of a Hearthstone tournament voiced his support for the Hong Kong protests. Headquartered in Irvine, California, Blizzard aren’t technically at the behest of China, though they’re business interests in the communist state were clearly at risk, as they rushed to rescind the winner’s prize money and slap him with a one year ban....

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will launch on November 6 for PS4, Xbox One and PC, Activision and Treyarch have announced. There’s currently no word on last gen versions of the highly anticipated sequel. Black Ops 3 is set in a dark, gritty future in which a new breed of Black Ops soldier has emerged, with the lines blurred between humanity and cutting-edge military robotics. Unusually for such a major release, it will hit stores worldwide on a Friday, not a Tuesday....

Fans have seen the Nuketown map in various past Call of Duty titles. This year is no different, with a 1980s style version of the map being released into Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. According to a new leak, Nuketown ’84 is set to get a Christmas makeover in time for the holiday season. It is not a surprise that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is adopting the festive spirit....

Developer Innersloth has announced that the Xbox and PlayStation version of Among Us will arrive on December 14. To be upfront, I’m usually “the Destiny guy.” But naturally, I had to come in with an open mind in reviewing Anthem. That’s a given since I’m drawing upon similarities between both games — and both are online shared-world looter-shooters with RPG mechanics. Recently, I did a technical review for Anthem as well, going in-depth about graphics, controls, and performance. Now, it’s time to focus on how well these all add up with gameplay and story....

BioWare is focussing its energies on an overhaul for Anthem that would shake up the fundamentals to deliver an entirely new game experience, termed “Anthem Next” (via Kotaku). Kotaku’s sources allege that the publisher and developer are “trying to integrate the disparate parts of the game together” utilising the teams at Austin, Texas, and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to address Anthem’s “core issues”. After a problematic development process, Anthem is considered to be devoid of excitement....

Respawn Entertainment is offering an expression of regret regarding Apex Legends’ ongoing Iron Crown event. The event drew controversy due to a restrictive microtransaction system that made it difficult for players to earn event-exclusive skins. Respawn is now acknowledging that it “missed the mark” with the Iron Crown event. As such, changes are being made to how Apex Legends players can purchase Iron Crown items. Long-term changes are also being planned....
