Guardians of the Galaxy’s Gamora may be in an unusual state in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the events of Avengers: Endgame, but it seems that the character, played by Zoe Saldana, could have been a lot different, since actress Amanda Seyfried has (strongly) implied that she was initially offered the role, only to turn it down. Seyfried (known from Les Misérables, Mamma Mia! and a series-long run on HBO’s Big Love,) made the rather intriguing revelation in a video interview with MTV promoting her recently-released co-starring dog dramedy film, The Art of Racing in the Rain, revealing that she rejected an offer to field a role that, while never-named, was obviously Gamora....

Apple has officially announced that its gaming subscription service will launch on September 19. For $4.99, Apple Arcade allows players to access a library of 100 premium games on their mobile devices. Users will first have access to a one-month free trial, so everyone can test it out and see if it fits with their lifestyles. The service will bring an Arcade Tab to the App Store, where users will be able to see new games as they are added....

Predator: Hunting Grounds, the asymmetrical shooter from developer IllFonic, is set to get its first batch of DLC on May 26. In it, Dutch, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character from the original film, will reprise his role in the video game. He’s a little grayer than last time we saw him, but he’s still being voiced by Arnold, which is pretty awesome for any fan of the movie. Dutch v. Predator IllFonic is staying true to the original franchise in regards to the story as well....

Soldak Entertainment has released the first expansion for the ARPG Zombasite called Orc Schism. Zombasite is Soldak’s zombie apocalypse action RPG and in this expansion the Orcs, who were created when the necromancer tried to raise dead Elves and it “went very wrong”, have been infected with the Zombasite pararsite and reemerged as new Orcs. There’s the Dark Orc with less Elven influence making them savage and aggressive and the unstable Mutated which were created when the Elven blood dominated making them either good or bad....

Silver Rain Games is a new studio that has been founded by Abubakar Salim, who played Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins (via GamesIndustry.biz). “I’ve played [Assassin’s Creed] from the beginning, so to then talk to the programmers, designers, writers, artists, even the testers, and getting to test it myself and to understand what it takes to make a game… it made me realise that there’s a lot of different factors involved,” he said....

Highly stylized but frequently clunky, Assassination Nation is at its best when it doesn’t get too bogged down in ideology. The premise of a widespread data breach is in many ways the ultimate 21st century horror show, and writer/director Sam Levinson astutely chose young women (including a black woman and a trans woman) as the vehicles through which a town would process its most hypocritical vitriol. The cinematography is especially imaginative during a disorienting attack, including an anxious, voyeuristic long shot from outside of the house where the girls are hiding and a beautiful underwater staple gun fight for this bonkers attempt at high-concept horror....

PlatinumGames is no stranger to the video game community. The company developed Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, as well as the popular Bayonetta 1 and 2. Its most mainstream title might be NieR: Automata, which was nominated for numerous awards. PlatinumGames has positioned itself as a fan favorite developer, and its newest title has arrived. Originally announced in February, Astral Chain is a Nintendo Switch exclusive, and is wholly original. Like NieR: Automata, the title puts a large emphasis on intense, exhilarating action....

A new interview has revealed at one point Square Enix handed the reigns of Final Fantasy 15 over to Eidos Montréal, the developer behind Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Speaking to TrueAchievements, former Eidos Montréal art director Jonathan Jacque-Belletête stated that before it went back over to be worked on in Japan, his team had a “really cool” Final Fantasy game in the works. “[Eidos Montréal] brought back Deus Ex. I was the art director on that - Deus Ex: Human Revolution....

While Atari seems to be having trouble trying to launch its troubled VCS console, it doesn’t seem to have a problem as far as real estate goes. The company has announced that it signed a contract that will enable it to provide its name and branding alongside a real estate developer. Atomic Heart is inching closer to release, which is set for later in the year. As Gamescom 2022 roars on, the team at Mundfish has released a combat trailer, featuring plenty of weapons and abilities you can use in the game. But it also shows off some of the game’s weirdness. Of which, there is plenty. I don’t know what’s going on with the robot ladies and their head spikes, but I certainly want to know now....

When Avatar was released back in 2009, it was kind of a big deal. Beating the record that he set with Titanic, James Cameron’s sci-fi epic grossed more than $2 billion to become the highest-grossing film of all time – spearheading the short-lived 3D renaissance, blurring the lines between live action and mo-cap animation and selling a whole lot of HD TVs. Never one to take the easy route, Cameron quickly announced plans for not one but four sequels – each to be filmed back to back and all to be bigger and more technologically advanced than anything else ever made....

It’s come to light that DICE’s head of design Fawzi Mesmar is leaving the studio following the release of Battlefield 2042. As revealed by Video Games Chronicle, Mesmar announced his departure in an email to staff earlier this week. It read “It was an absolute pleasure to serve on the best design teams in the galaxy. The incredible design work that you do continues to inspire me every day. Thank you for putting some faith in me, I hope I didn’t disappoint....

Tindalos Interactive is set to return to the Warhammer universe with the announcement of Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2. The strategy series continues and Tindalos are aiming to expand on the first game by making the sequel “bigger, richer, more impressive and more ambitious”. All twelve factions from the tabletop game and Armada are set to make an appearance which includes the Imperial Navy, Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus, Necrons, Chaos, Aeldari Corsairs, Aeldari Craftworld, Drukhari, the T’au Merchant and Protector Fleets, Orks, and the Tyranids....

The final season of Beastars has been confirmed to be in production, but it’ll be a little while before fans can experience it. In a post made to the official Beastars website on Sept. 7, it was revealed that the anime adaptation is officially in production. It will again stream on Netflix, and will cover the rest of the material from the manga leading up to the series’ conclusion. This would cover the Interspecies Relations arc as well as the Revenge of the Love Failure arc; both of which offer drastic story developments and big character development moments for the core cast....

Disney+ has already proven itself as an industry-altering streaming distribution pipeline for the monolithic Mouse House’s myriad properties, and it appears that 2017’s live-action $1.2 billion worldwide-grossing hit, Beauty and the Beast, is set to be the next example of this notion, proving that shows can be mined from the most unlikely of places. Luke Evans and Josh Gad are locked in to reprise their roles – as Gaston and LeFou, respectively – in an untitled live-action limited-run prequel television series that’s set for a Disney+ streaming run, as THR reports....
