Beyond Good and Evil 2 was officially announced at E3 2017. Prior to that, reports of work on the game had existed in some form for a decade or so prior. However, by 2016, work on the game had been put on hiatus for Rayman Legends 2 development, before being picked up again. Things were looking good for a while, but then series creator and lead, Michel Ancel, left the games industry to spend time at a wildlife sanctuary....

The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta is not far away. Fans have already had a glimpse into the single-player campaign and multiplayer modes. Also, the Treyarch developers have been eager to share further details such as new mechanics and weapon balancing. Many players will certainly try to get their hands on beta codes for early access, though it looks like Xfinity customers are in luck. The internet and cable provider is giving away Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta codes....

Retro games compendium Blizzard Arcade Collection has recieved an update this week that adds two more games for no extra cost to the three games that were already in the package. As announced by Blizzard on their blog, the update brings along sequel game Lost Vikings 2 reuniting Erik, Baleog and Olaf for their second adventure, while RPM Racing is a prequel to Rock N Roll Racing offers isometric vehicular fun originally released for the SNES in 1992....

This review contains spoilers. 6.7 The Honeypot After a couple of one-off episodes, this week found Brooklyn Nine-Nine getting back to this season’s over-arching plot this year, Captain Holt’s battle against commissioner John Kelly. After shutting down the first floor in the 99th precinct at the beginning of this season, the conflict between Holt and Kelly has largely receded to the background, barring the occasional image of the overcrowded workspace. Thankfully, Brooklyn Nine-Nine handles its standalone instalments with the same craft and care that it puts into its slightly serialised fare, so it’s not a problem spending time away from the main story, but it certainly is nice to see it back in focus....

Activision has announced the specifics of February’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 DLC, and it’s a new multiplayer map called Overwatch. It will be available for premium Call of Duty: Elite subscribers with Xbox 360s on February 21. PlayStation 3 owners will have to wait about a month to see it, thanks to an exclusivity deal between Activision and Microsoft. Overwatch is the third spluttering of Modern Warfare 3 DLC, following the release of Liberation and Piazza in January....

Amiibo figures are making their way to the hugely popular Skylanders series with two characters and vehicles set to launch with Skylanders Superchargers. You’ll be able to buy Turbo Charged Donkey Kong with Barrel Blaster Car, and Hammer Slam Bowser and his Clown Cruise Vehicle. Put the figures on the Skylanders portal and they will work as any other Skylander, but twist the figure’s base and they’ll function as regular amiibo in other compatible games....

Android users have received a pleasant surprise recently with the ability to connect a Nintendo Switch Pro controller to their phones. The ability to do so is a fantastic step towards making mobile gaming more comfortable. Although mobile phones have become more powerful and capable of handling some demanding games, the lack of hardware and a reliance in using the awkward on-screen controls has worked to keep serious players on consoles and PC....

Animal Crossing: New Horizons patch 1.3.1 has been released, and it targets a number of issues that have prevented players from getting the most out of the first summer update. Wave 1, as it is titled, added swimming and diving to the game. Players will require a wetsuit to enter the water, which are on sale through Nook’s Cranny or the Nook Stop machine. Publisher Asmodee Digital is pulling its Pandemic game from the Nintendo eShop, and is disabling online multiplayer in its Switch version of Catan. For the former, an announcement on Twitter stated the game would be pulled from 31st July, although existing owners will not be impacted. “The initial digital game was released 9 years ago, and we no longer feel the current quality and reliability are on par with what Pandemic deserves on digital platforms,” reads the statement....

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey transports players to ancient Greece, a rich milieu that developer Ubisoft Quebec harnesses to inspire new gameplay features that significantly change the classic AC formula. The game world is vast and varied, and while stealth and parkour-style traversal remain the focus of the experience, combat and exploration receive major enhancements, making this one of the most well-rounded entries in the franchise’s history....

Assassin’s Creed Origins and For Honor: Marching Fire Edition are set to arrive on Xbox Game Pass next month. Although Microsoft had already teased that the new arrivals were on the way they had not been formally dated. However, our friends at VGC report that the dates were confirmed by way of Game Pass’ “coming soon” section on the Microsoft Store, as viewed on Microsoft consoles. For Honor: Marching Fire Edition will join the Xbox Game Pass library on 1st June, whilst Assassin’s Creed Origins will reportedly arrive a week later on 7th June....

Gaul buddies Asterix & Obelix are returning for a third round of Roman-bashing antics, with Asterix & Obelix XXL 3 currently in the works for a late 2019 release. The game will feature an original story that stays true to the duo’s comic book origins, and lets you pick between Asterix or Obelix in a brand new adventure that’s playable solo or with a mate in tow. If that wasn’t enough, Anuman Interactive confirmed that’s it’s polishing up Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 on PlayStation 4, PC, Switch, and Xbox One this November....
