Blizzard has been in the news a lot recently, not only for its upcoming acquisition by Microsoft, but also due to the multiple reports of a toxic workplace environment and allegations of sexual misconduct that came to light last year. Then, in January, Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra released a blog post laying out the steps he said will “rebuild trust” in the developer. This included plans to hire new team members, whose roles would focus on improving the company’s workplace culture....

Blizzard has released its schedule for BlizzCon 2019 amidst ongoing #BoycottBlizzard controversy. It’s been a rough year for Blizzard. First, there were the company-wide layoffs earlier this year, then there were reports of canceled projects and employee turmoil. Then most recently the whole Hong Kong Hearthstone debacle that blew up so spectacularly that US Congresspeople even sent letters to Blizzard asking them to stop supporting an autocratic government just to make a buck....

To be able to quickly hurl yourself with exact precision and merciless speed is an act that few games have achieved well. But that is what Boomerang X is all about. Put simply, the controls, movement, and general gameplay mechanics here are impeccable, and many other games would be lucky to have such strengths. But the game’s short length and lack of ambition in its overall structural design hold it back from achieving the greatness that I feel the developers might have at their fingertips in the future....

Gearbox Software has released the latest hotfix for Borderlands 3, which improves Moze’s survivability and begins two events (via Twinfinite). Though she leaves enemies quaking in their boots, Moze and her Iron Bear mech have gotten some sorely needed buffs. With the Guns, Love and Tentacles DLC and the increased level cap, these changes arrive just in the nick of time for Moze players. Here’s what’s new: “Reduced the cooldown time for Iron Bear Increased the amount of fuel for Iron Bear Increased the bonus on ‘Behind the Iron Curtain’ skill Increased the bonus on ‘Security Bear’ skill Increased the bonus on ‘Experimental Munitions’ skill” Also included are weapon balance changes for:...

The Google Stadia library grew a little bit this week. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is available now, and Ghost Recon Breakpoint will arrive on Dec. 18, tomorrow. Sandwiched between the two, however, is Borderlands 3. The game arrived today, bringing the co-op-oriented hit to the new format for players to enjoy. However, there’s a small catch — it’s not quite the up-to-date version that people were expecting. What’s Borderlands 3 missing on Stadia?...

Borderlands 3 released to rave reviews and a lot of fan excitement in September, and those that picked up the game on day one were treated to a slew of multiplayer content, a bunch of Borderlands 3 Shift Keys, and much more. But for those that decided to wait until Black Friday to snag the first-person shooter in hopes of a good deal, the time has come. Borderlands 3 is over 50% at a select retailer today....

Bungie plans to make real-life Hive Relic Swords and sell them to anyone who finishes the new Pit of Heresy dungeon in Destiny 2. Well, they’re real in the sense that they physically exist, but we’d hesitate to call them a “sword.” They’re foam replicas of the jagged, almost rock-like blade you can wield in-game to shatter Hive shields and make bosses vulnerable to stabbing. They kill Crota nicely, but shouldn’t shatter your table....

In a recent interview, Bungie creative lead Robbie Stevens and narrative designer Nikko Stevens discussed the future of Destiny and seemed agreeable to an idea that should make many gamers very excited. When asked if Bungie would be open to considering a movie or television adaptation of the series, Stevens replied simply, “Anything is possible.” Though this is definitely not confirmation of any such projects in the near future, the response shows that the development studio is at least open to the idea....

Modern Warfare 2, which is like the old Modern Warfare 2 but not completely, will ship this October. To announce this, publisher Activision painted up ship in a bizarre video clip shared on Twitter. I understand the connection: ship and ship date, get it? But still, you’d half expect someone would just come out and say that there’s a release date for Modern Warfare 2 without the pomp. Then again, this might be why I’m not in marketing....

Anthem players have given away free codes for the sci-fi shooter to encourage others to stay indoors to slow the spread of the coronavirus (via MP1ST). “Reinforcing this point of staying home and playing together, I have some digital codes to give away for Anthem if any of you need a game to play right now,” announced one player. “Stay safe out there, Freelancers.” The developer noticed the community’s generosity and then dropped digital codes for all platforms, too....

Ever since Apex Legends launched, there has been a continuous stream of character leaks that previously revealed the likes of Octane, Wattson, and Crypto. Another leak suggested that a character by the name of Revenant could eventually join the game, and even though Season 3 just launched and Crypto just joined the Apex Games, it seems the game itself could be using and/or teasing Revenant. Another leak suggests that there will be a Halloween-themed LTM called Shadowfall, and it seems the two will be used in conjunction with each other....

In most FPS games — and in battle royale-style games in particular — players who have the high ground have serious advantages. High ground positioning makes it easier to spot enemies, to block their shots using the jutting edge of the terrain and to more easily get headshots against opponents. Ubisoft has released a new trailer for Assassin’s Creed Origins detailing all of the content coming to the game following its October 27 release. In short, there’ll be two story-driven DLCs, with one of these being an undead-themed Egyptian mummy expansion, The Curse of the Pharaohs. The trailer also lists all of the free DLC coming post-launch, which includes things like the Horde mode, and the educational Discovery Tour. The Assassin’s Creed Origins season pass grants access to both of the story-driven DLCs....

The winners of the League of Legends World Championship, FunPlus Phoenix, are not just good at gaming: their bot laner Lin “Lwx” Wei-Xiang is also world champion of burns. Their opponent G2 Esports, who they defeated 3-0, was considered a favorite, yet FunPlus Phoenix still took the trophy home. When asked why they think they’re better than their opponents, Lwx simply replied, “Today, I don’t think it’s because we performed especially well....

Atlus is suing fans who recreated its defunct MMO Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine. ReImagine, as the unofficial fan server was known, has since been shut down. Atlus’s MMO was first released in Japan in 2007 and had players exploring a post-apocalyptic Tokyo. Upcoming Xbox exclusive RPG Avowed has been rather quiet since it was announced last year, but a few new titbits of info have emerged to whet our appetite. The details come from a new report from Windows Central that claims to have spoken to “sources familiar with internal plans” for the game. According to them Avowed has “many mechanics and core gameplay pillars” already implemented. They go so far as to claim Obsidian have the game almost in a playable alpha state....

Batman: Arkham Knight will offer players six months of post-launch DLC via a £32.99 Season Pass, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced. The six months of content will include new story missions, additional super-villains invading Gotham City, legendary Batmobile skins, advanced challenge maps, alternative character skins, and new drivable race tracks. The Season Pass will also be included in the Batman: Arkham Knight Premium Edition priced £87.98 on PS4 and Xbox One, and £67....

Battlefield Hardline Premium is now available for free on EA and Origin Access. It usually retails for £39.99. Premium offers access to four Battlefield Hardline expansion packs – Betrayal, Getaway, Robbery and Criminal Activity – each introducing new maps, modes, weapons and vehicles. Robbery is currently also available free of charge to all Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Battlefield Hardline was added to EA Access last October, meaning subscribers now have access to the original game plus all of its DLC....

What a coincidence. Who knew a game like WorldBox - God Simulator would come along at exactly the same time I decided to rewatch The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings? Extended editions, naturally. I’ve just cleared Fellowship of the Ring so I’m churning through them. Poor old Boromir - gets me every time.
