Activision had already confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was coming to PC this year, but today the company is surely hinting that more news is on the way. Earlier, Activision shared the official logo for Modern Warfare 2 via Twitter, and offered at least one hint on its plot. Spoilers: it’s likely still going to use some of the original story as its basis.

The new logo for Modern Warfare 2 is sleek. A white M and W are separated with a green “II” in the middle. And while Infinity Ward shared the logo by itself, the Call of Duty Twitter account offered just a tad more. A short, animated clip was posted by the account, rife with some nigh-incomprehensible military jargon and some booming bass.

However, just before the logo appears, we see another, familiar emblem. Blink, and you’d miss the logo for Task Force 141, which belonged to the protagonist group of 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This new Modern Warfare 2 will no doubt star the same soldiers, but with a fresh, rebooted story. Its predecessor, Modern Warfare (2019), did pretty much the same thing. Yes, it is a bit confusing.

Remember, there may not be Russians

It’ll be interesting to see where the new Modern Warfare 2 takes us when it lands on PC this year. The original was highly praised and rather infamous for its “No Russian” mission in which you could choose to gun down an airport. Such a mission may not exist in the reboot, but that’s not to say developer Infinity Ward doesn’t have something surprising up its sleeves.

The official reveal for Modern Warfare 2 came in February along with Warzone 2 reveal. The latter is said to be a “massive evolution of battle royale,” and is being developed alongside MW2 by Infinity Ward. Both games are getting powered by an all-new engine, so I imagine they’ll look slick on release.

Activision hasn’t revealed more on Modern Warfare 2. With E3 dead and gone this year, the company may be planning its own reveal showcase or squeeze in a trailer for Summer Game Fest 2022.
