Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 design director David Vonderhaar has spilled a few new details on the game’s Blackout mode during a chat with Game Informer.
Vonderhaar was bombarded with 195 questions about the upcoming military shooter, so naturally there were quite a few interesting snippets to take away from the interview. One of these involved frame rate, in that the game may not necessarily hit 60fps even though it is still technical capable of doing so.
One thing that’s clear however is that Blackout is not locked at 30fps, although he didn’t specific any platforms when talking about frame rate.
Elsewhere, Vonderhaar revealed that Blackout will not support cross-play, although that probably isn’t much of a surprise at this point. There’s also not platform-exclusive DLC, which is definitely worthy of the plus column.
New characters will be unlocked in Blackout by completing limited-time events, of which there will be plenty. There’s also a possibility that a second map will be added at a later date, although for now the existing one should be big enough, and is set in northern California.
Finally, Vonderhaar revealed that split-screen is being tested by the studio at the moment, saying it’s definitely ‘feasible.’ Custom Games meanwhile will also be a thing, albeit ’not as you think of them.’
Speaking of Blackout, Treyarch confirmed yesterday that the battle royale mode’s beta will support 80 players, which is more than rival shooter Battlefield V will accommodate.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is due for release on October 12 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
