Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will run at 30 frames per second on Xbox 360 and PS3 – half the speed of all previous games in the series, Beenox has revealed.

Speaking to Develop, creative director Thomas Wilson explained that Beenox and Mercenary Technology, the two teams behind the 360/PS3 ports, had “tried to hit” 60fps, but that they ran into difficulties working on the older platforms.

“We’re basically looking more at something like 30fps,” he said. “But still, the experience is very enjoyable, otherwise it’s not Call of Duty.”

All previous Call of Duty titles have run at 60fps on both PS3 and Xbox 360. Activision has also previously described Call of Duty’s usual 60fps framerate as one of the franchise’s “key pillars”.

The last-gen versions won’t feature the game’s Campaign mode, either, instead only offering Multiplayer and Zombies.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions, meanwhile, are both expected to run at 60fps and include the Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies Mode.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on November 6.
