Can’t get enough Call of Duty? Well, Activision certainly hopes not. Because they’ve got not one, not two, but three new CoD titles set to ship in the next two years. At least according to Dan Amrich, blogger for Activision, who has taken to defending the company on Facebook. On Call of Duty, Amrich writes:
So, let’s see. That’s Call of Duty 7 from Treyarch, due this year. A new Call of Duty from Infinity Ward (assuming there is anyone left at Infinity Ward to make the game), speculatively due next year. And a totally new Call of Duty game from Sledgehammer Games, the studio formed by the one-time heads of Visceral Games. That’s a lot of Call of Duty. Given Activision’s record of, how shall I put it… saturating the market with titles from their successful franchises, how worried should we be about Call of Duty going the Guitar Hero route? Says Amrich:
“As for COD, they’ve confirmed three games in the next two years. Seeing as how there is a pattern of one new COD game every year, this is one new COD game from one new developer, and in a different genre from the core games we’ve seen. "
It’s worth pointing out that Amrich made these statements on the discussions page of Gamers against Bobby Kotick & Activision on Facebook. Gotta give the guy credit - he’s certainly not preaching to the choir.
“I don’t think that’s comparable to what happened last year with Guitar Hero, but maybe you see it differently.”
Well, what do you think – are three Call of Duty games in 24 months too many, no matter how diverse they are? Or will you take all the Call of Duty you can get?
