Spin off movies are all the rage. Even Star Wars is doing it with Rogue One this holiday season. Spinning off the main Transformers line of movies into more focussed efforts makes sense, so it’s no great surprise to hear that the sixth movie will be a lower budget affair honing in on one of the franchise’s robots.

Transformers 6 will be a Bumblebee spin-off, Paramount has announced, hitting screens on June 8, 2018.

“There are characters in the Transformers universe that can be and should be made into their own movies,” Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey told The Hollywood Reporter. “We will make the first movie with Michael and go right into a Bumblebee movie, which will be at a lower cost.”

Whilst Transformers 7 will be another ensemble piece, it sounds like Paramount has plenty of ideas for future spin-offs.

“We’ve brought in a pretty strong writing staff run by Akiva Goldsman, and they have put together eight or nine interesting stories,” said Grey. “So, between that group and Steven Spielberg’s guidance on a story level, these characters are a big business for us to pursue.”

Perhaps a live action remake of Grimlock’s New Brain?
