Episode two of The Borderlands Show is out, and gave fans a look at the new endgame content coming soon to Borderlands 3. Footage of the Takedown at Maliwan’s Blacksite DLC aired during the live-streamed episode, alongside the release of a Spooky Surprise SHiFT code to round out the Borderlands Anniversary Celebration.
Takedowns are another type of free content coming to Borderlands 3, much like the currently-running Bloody Harvest Halloween event, except Takedowns will be a permanent addition to the game. They’re all post-game content, meaning that the only thing players need to do for access to it is complete the main Borderlands 3 story campaign.
Once it’s time for the Takedown at Maliwan’s Blacksite endgame content (and players are highly encouraged to have plenty of legendary gear equipped before they start), the fight is taken right to the Maliwan Corporation’s doorstep. The Head of Gearbox Group, Randy Varnell, appeared on The Borderlands Show to talk about the DLC, reporting that it was “designed to be a four-player co-op mission at level 50,” although players are free to attempt this as a solo mission–at their own peril.
Public Matchmaking will also be available during Takedowns, which is good news for players without a group of people to play with, as Takedown at Maliwan’s Blacksite is intended to be some of the most challenging BL3 content to date. In this particular takedown, players are tasked with a preemptive strike on a high-security Maliwan facility by Lorelai, who worries that the company might try another hostile takeover of the Atlas corporation.
The Takedown is designed to take players around 30 or 40 minutes to complete, and they’re more or less nonstop action from start to finish. “[They’re] probably a little bit longer than the Proving Grounds right now, but not too long,” Varnell added. “We still like that you can come to play a session, then either replay it or take a break and come back tomorrow. It’s designed to be replayable content.” Takedown at Maliwan’s Blacksite will also drop some very valuable BL3 loot for players who can fight their way through, including exclusive Vault Hunter Head and Skin options and some of the game’s best shields available.
Takedown at Maliwan’s Blacksite arrives on November 21, giving players enough time to finish up the story campaign and gain a few levels in preparation for the big event.
Borderlands 3 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
