Borderlands 3 is the fastest-selling game in all of 2K’s history, according to a recent press release.

This is perhaps no surprise to any of the millions of you out there currently playing Borderlands 3, but this is a pretty big deal. Borderlands 3 sold over 5 million units over its first 5 days of sales, which is 50% more than Borderlands 2 did in its first 5 days. It’s also the fastest-selling title in 2K history and their highest-selling PC game over a 5-day period.

Being an Epic exclusive doesn’t seem to have hurt Borderlands 3’s sales all that much. 2K revealed that over 70% of the game’s sales were digital, with many of those being on PC. Pre-order sales broke the record for the Epic Games Store while also breaking 2K’s record for pre-sales on PC, with PC sales being “incredibly strong.”

Borderlands as a franchise has become big business, too. Net bookings for Borderlands, which includes all game sales, merchandise, DLC, and licensing, now totals over $1 billion. This is the second game in 2K history to breach that threshold, the first being NBA2K.

Borderlands 3 also had a big debut on Twitch, becoming the most-watched game on launch day and maintaining its top-five position since then. Over 14 million hours of Twitch content has been produced since the game’s launch, which now exceeds Borderlands 2 over its 7-year lifespan. Although we should note that Twitch is only 8 years old, and there weren’t a whole lot of viewers around 7 years ago.

“Borderlands 3’s incredibly successful launch is a result of the hard work and long-standing partnership between Gearbox Software and 2K,” said 2K President David Ismailer in a statement.

“We are immensely grateful to everyone who played a role in making the Borderlands series the global pop culture phenomenon that it is today, including hundreds of developers at Gearbox and many who have made this their life’s work. We also want to thank the Borderlands community. Mayhem does not happen by itself, and their passion for the series is what drives us to make each game an amazing experience.”
