A new event in Borderlands 3 means another chance to get even more loot. With the latest update and Broken Hearts Day event, players can participate in the festivities by shooting the floating hearts hovering above enemies. From February 13th to February 20th, shooting enough hearts will unlock various rewards including the Wedding Invitation weapon as a final prize.
The Wedding Invitation is a legendary tier Jakobs sniper rifle making its debut with this event. Like other similar weapons, it boasts high critical damage but also refunds bullets and ricochets around on a critical hit. What sets the Wedding Invitation apart, however, is that initial shots deal fire elemental damage which become cryo-type on ricochets and still deal 100 percent of the original shot’s damage. For now, there is no guarantee that the sniper rifle, comparable to other top tier sniper rifles, will become available after the event ends, so interested players should rush to break some hearts.
Starting The Broken Hearts Day Event
The event should automatically be activated but it can be checked in the main menu before choosing a vault hunter. After launching Borderlands 3, players should make their way to Sanctuary. On arrival, find and talk to Maurice to officially start Broken Hearts Day. She needs some studying the science of love and players are tasked with acquiring hearts from willing and unwilling participants on Pandora and other planets.
Shooting Hearts
After talking to Maurice, enemies should now have hearts levitating over their heads or floating nearby. Earning all Valentine rewards requires shooting enough of these hearts throughout the universe. Going to a location with many enemies such as the Circle of Slaughter or Slaughter Shaft will greatly speed up the process. To get the Wedding Invitation, players will need to shoot one-hundred hearts. In the right place it should only take one or two full clears to break all the hearts needed.
On the way to the top, rewards will be given at 10, 25, 50, and 75 hearts shot. These other prizes include the ECHOcardiogram ECHO skin, Cosmic Romance weapon trinket, Terminal Polyaimorous Legendary Maliwan SMG, and the Heartbreaker Vault Hunter skin respectively.
With the structure and duration of the Broken Hearts Day event, the development team has learned from past holidays such as the Bloody Harvest. Being able to toggle the event on and off while making it last only a week ensures that players don’t get burned out or annoyed at the grind, which is rather easy compared to past grinds. Finally, the Wedding Invitation is top tier in any characters hands because of its features and stats, so the sniper rifle is a must-have for casual or veteran Vault Hunters.
Borderlands 3 is available for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia.
