Like previous games, Borderlands 3 has Legendary items that are insanely overpowered. Since the game’s launch, many items have been nerfed or patched. Luckily, the items on this list still stand out despite being less OP than they were initially.

Every item on this list can be obtained via world drop but they also have dedicated loot pools. Some of them may require a ton of grinding but are totally worth the hassle. Keep in mind, certain characters can benefit more than others from these items. On their own though, they are still great. Here are the ten items in Borderlands 3 that will make the game much easier (and where to find them).

10 The Flakker - Legendary Torque Shotgun

The Flakker is a returning weapon from Borderlands 2 that is much more efficient than its predecessor. It can be dropped from Manvark, the Legendary Hunt creature in Konrad’s Hold on Pandora.

When this gun initially shoots, you won’t see its trajectory. Directly after, a bunch of explosions will appear out of thin air, dealing a ton of splash damage. The range can take some getting used to but you will eventually get the hang of it. The obvious character that benefits from this is Moze due to her specialty in splash damage. However, FL4K can also utilize his Fade Away ability, where each of those explosions does a critical hit, destroying most enemies.

9 Hoarder Stop-Gap - Legendary Hyperion Shield

The Hoarder Stop-Gap is probably the most practical shield for keeping you alive most of the time. It can be obtained from El Dragón Jr., a rare-spawn enemy in Jakobs Estate on Eden 6.

On its own, the Hoarder Stop-Gap has a large shield capacity that will take a while to go down. The bonus is that once it has been depleted, you are immune from damage for five seconds. When in Mayhem Mode, things will get hectic and you’ll be hit from all angles. Being able to ignore some damage for even five seconds is a blessing.

8 The Maggie - Legendary Jakobs Revolver

The Maggie is the best Jakobs revolver in the game. While the Unforgiven has higher base damage, the Maggie’s fire rate and magazine size allow it to have a higher DPS and just being overall more efficient. The Maggie is dropped by Tremendous Rex, the final boss in The Cistern Of Slaughter.

Other masher-style revolvers may have better recoil, however, the Maggie makes up for that with its critical hit damage. The magazine size is fixed at 9 for each variant but each of those shots will shoot six pellets, resulting in great damage when hitting critical spots. FL4K is probably the best for The Maggie due to his Guerillas In The Mist augment.

7 The Night Hawkin - Legendary DAHL SMG

The Night Hawkin is an obvious reference to Netflix’s Stranger Things from its name but also its drop-source, the DemoSkaggons. These creatures are a rare spawn in The Droughts map on Pandora. The effect is that it is a regular DAHL SMG that is either Cyro during the day or Fire at nighttime.

This could have easily been a gimmick weapon but it’s anything but. The Cryo and Fire damage output shred enemies’ health bars. It has a high fire-rate, with each hit increasing its elemental effect chance. The Night Hawkin is great for an elemental Amara build as well as a Cryo Zane.

6 The Transformer - Legendary Hyperion Shield

The Transformer is actually obtainable via a side mission reward. That mission is called “It’s Alive” in Desolation’s Edge on Nekrotafeyo. You should wait until you’re at Level 50 before you accept this mission.

The Transformer has a relatively decent shield capacity. The bonus is that you’re completely immune to Shock damage. In addition to being immune, that Shock damage you take will recharge your shield. A great strategy is to pair this with a Shock grenade such as The Storm Front. You can easily get up close after throwing it at an enemy as your grenade will end up healing your shield and you become invincible for a few seconds.

5 The Lyuda - Legendary Vladof Sniper Rifle

The Lyuda makes a return from Borderlands 2 and is an automatic reward from Zer0 for doing his Target Of Opportunity kills. Just like The Transformer, you should wait until you’re at the max level before finishing them. Also, The Lyuda is dropped by Tremendous Rex in The Cistern Of Slaughter.

The best way to describe The Lyuda is that it’s an automatic sniper rifle. It has the fire rate of an assault rifle with the damage of a sniper. This thing just melts many enemies if you can score critical hits, especially with FL4K. The only downside is that eats up ammo since you can only have so much ammo storage for sniper rifles.

4 The Brainstormer - Legendary Hyperion Shotgun

Everyone hates dealing with an enemy that has a shield. In comes The Brainstormer shotgun, which is great for mobs of enemies that all have shields. This gun can drop from the Katagawa Ball, the final boss of the Skywell-27 area.

The Brainstormer is basically the gun version of the Storm Front grenade where it can chain lightning to other enemies. In addition to that, the damage is generally very high, meaning you can melt down an enemy’s shield and then the Shock damage can still finish them off. An elemental build for Amara is probably the best way to utilize this weapon to its full potential.

3 The Scourge - Legendary Torque Launcher

As of right now, the community has yet to 100% determine the drop location of The Scourge. Therefore, you’re going to have to rely on world drops. The Scourge is worth the time and effort though.

When you shoot The Scourge, rockets will multiply the longer it goes without hitting anything, with the damage output being insane. Moze is especially OP with The Scourge due to her Same for the Road skill, which gives her unlimited ammo for five seconds after exiting Iron Bear. Even in Mayhem 4, this tactic can destroy almost half of Graveward’s health after one attempt.

2 Hex - Legendary ATLAS Grenade

The Hex is the best grenade in Borderlands 3. It’s also an easy farm as you just need to kill the Sky Bullies in The Anvil, one of Zer0’s Targets Of Opportunity. Since there are two of them, your chances are much higher to get the Hex.

Being an ATLAS grenade, the Hex will track towards an enemy. Once this thing detonates, it shoots a ton of beams that continually damage the enemy with elemental splash damage. If you can get a Recurring Hex variant, it’s even more powerful. This grenade is great for all characters depending on your elemental damage. Moze is extremely deadly with the Hex thanks to her ability to have grenades do a critical hit.

1 The Cutsman - Legendary Maliwan SMG

Ironically, the Cutsman is known as one of the best guns in the game considering Maliwan was originally labeled the worst manufacturer in the game. If you want to get a Cutsman, you’ll need to farm Borman Nates, a rare spawn enemy in Meridian Outskirts.

The name Cutsman is fitting since this SMG shoots out a long horizontal line of elemental blades. Each of these blades can do some serious damage and it’s probably the closest thing players have to The Sandhawk from Borderlands 2 (the best SMG in that game). If you want to have an easy time in the Maliwan Takedown, you’ll want a Cutsman with Corrosive damage.
