Den of Geek is hosting this giveaway in partnership with Tor Books.

In my review of 2019’s Magic For Liars, I described the fantasy noir from Sarah Gailey as “Jessica Jones meets The Magicians,” which is another way of saying that it uses some familiar pop culture language in fresh and fascinating combinations. Also, that if you frequent Den of Geek, this book probably includes some elements you like.

Magic For Liars is a magical murder mystery. It follows Bay Area detective Ivy Gamble, who is hired to investigate a mysterious death at the same magical academy where her estranged twin sister, Tabitha, works as a teacher. Magic For Liars is as much an exploration of their sibling relationship, as it is anything else. Tabitha has magical ability; Ivy does not. That disparity in magical privilege deeply influences their relationship, as it does Ivy’s investigation into exactly what happened at The Osthorne Academy of Young Mages.

Here is the full synopsis from Tor Books:

“Ivy Gamble is perfectly happy with her life—or at least, she’s perfectly fine.

She doesn’t in any way wish she was like Tabitha, her estranged, gifted twin sister.

Ivy Gamble is a liar.

When a gruesome murder is discovered at The Osthorne Academy of Young Mages, where her estranged twin sister teaches Theoretical Magic, reluctant detective Ivy Gamble is pulled into the world of untold power and dangerous secrets. She will have to find a murderer and reclaim her sister—without losing herself.

If any or all of this intrigues you, then you should enter to win one of the five copies of Magic For Liars we’re giving away.”

Entry into the giveaway is simple:

Unfortunately, only readers who reside in the United States qualify for this contest. Final entries will be accepted Friday, May 15th! Five (5) winners will be drawn at random and contacted via Goodreads message. Good luck!
