Koji Igarashi, widely accepted as the godfather of the vania genre and co-director of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, has seen his Kickstarter for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night storm past all its stretch goals within 24 hours.

Asking for $500,000, the funding for the project has now eclipsed $1.2 million, and 30 days remain.

“Iga here. Many years have passed, but it’s finally time we met again. With your help, I hope to create a new game built on some of the classic gaming prickliness my works are known for. Thank you for your support – I look forward to leading you in my army of the night!” wrote Igarashi.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a gothic, exploration-focused action platformer. You are Miriam, an orphan scarred by an alchemist curse which slowly crystallizes your skin and who must battle your way through a demon-filled castle.

The game is targeting a March 2017 release for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Backers will have the option to receive actual retail discs.
