Those who were excitedly waiting for the release of Warcraft 3: Reforged were mostly disappointed when the game barely included a fraction of the features that Blizzard had promised. Despite the awful reception, Blizzard president, J. Allen Brack, promised that the company will “stand behind” the game, and continue to improve it as time goes on.

Warcraft 3: Reforged currently sits as the worst user-reviewed game on Metacritic, with an embarrassing score of 0.5 out of 10. The game most certainly isn’t the worst of all time, but Blizzard’s inability to deliver on almost all of the promises that had been made for Warcraft 3 is the primary reason why people are so cheesed.

Blizzard had originally promised that Warcraft 3: Reforged would come with an entirely new UI, additional dialogue, an updated campaign, and reworked cutscenes, guaranteeing that it would be the greatest version of a game that everyone knows and loves. They delivered on virtually none of these promises, and it’s pretty incredible that the team at Blizzard thought the version of the game they released would be acceptable to fans.

During a Q4 earnings call, Brack admitted that it had been a “hard week”.  He recognized that the game fell below the expectations of fans, but promised that Blizzard would continue to improve upon it, as they do with all of their games. Brack also stated that Blizzard will be clear in letting the community know of the changes that are to come.

Blizzard began offering refunds to those who had purchased Warcraft 3: Reforged, in which players were instantly given their money back in full. The company apologized for the game’s poor quality at launch, and reiterated that they will continue to improve upon the game until it some day resembles what was promised.

Hopefully this will be a lesson to publishers. If your game isn’t ready to be released, delay it. Fans would much rather wait another year or two than purchase a lifeless, disappointing cash grab that insults the intelligence of everyone who tries to play it. It’s great that Blizzard will work to improve the game, but this has been yet another sketchy moment for the company that once seemed as if it could do no wrong.
