So this is a bit weird, even for Twitch streamer PaladinAmber. She’s asking her followers to Tweet at SpaceX CEO Elon Musk in order to request being shot up into space to clean up “space trash.”
Some people decide to hold charity streams after acquiring fame and fortune. Some people find they don’t like the spotlight and then retreat from the public eye. And some people just want to tweet at internet-savvy billionaires to see if they can get shot into space. PaladinAmber falls into the latter camp.
To be clear, she’s probably the only person in that camp.
Elon Musk is probably used to being the target of bizarre internet memes, given how active on social media he’s been. So him suddenly receiving a lot of directed tweets asking for Twitch streamer PaladinAmber to be “shot into space so she can pick up space trash” is likely nothing new.
According to a recent YouTube video, PaladinAmber started this meme just so she could confirm her followers were actually paying attention. And also so she might have a chance to be shot into space.
So far, there’s been no response on Musk’s end. This doesn’t seem particularly strange, given that SpaceX is in the space freight business and not in the human space flight business. SpaceX is currently busy launching satellites into space for their Starlink space-based internet service. Up to 12,000 satellites could be in orbit by 2025 providing cheap internet for every corner of the globe.
That sounds like a lot, and indeed, it is. There’s a very real danger that these satellites will collide and cause a debris field that will need to be cleaned up before manned spaceflight is even possible. Hence PaladinAmber’s request to get a head start on cleaning up that space trash.
Although you can’t watch PaladinAmber get launched into space (yet), you can see the latest SpaceX launch of the Falcon 9 rocket as it brings another batch of Starlink satellites into orbit. The launch from Cape Canaveral should be viewable on YouTube here.
