Following on from the surprise combined release/announcement of the game Subsurface Circular, Bithell Games has revealed today that it’s publishing a handbook to the business of game dev called The GameDev Business Handbook.
Written by business journalist Michael Futter, and edited by Susan Arendt, The GameDev Business Handbook is already finished and will be out later this year, and is billed as ‘a deeply researched instructional guide for creating and sustaining your independent video game studio.’
The website goes on to say that the book isn’t a get rich quick guide, but instead, ‘This book is for those who work hard, but may not have access to the network that comes with being in the industry for over a decade.’
Developers interviewed for the book included Brenda Romero, Vlambeer’s Rami Ismail, and Ninja Theory’s Nina Kristensen, to name but a three, as well as video game attorneys and publishers.
Mike Bithell commented on the reveal on Twitter, saying that ‘Something I’ve been eager to do more, is help out peers, and folks who want into the games industry.’
You can see excerpts, and pre-order the book if you’re so inclined, at the website.
Some of that is visiting schools, some of it is doing talks, those are fun, but they lack reach, and I like to optimize shit. [cont]
