It’s been quite some time since fans have seen or heard anything about Biomutant, the upcoming RPG from developer Experiment 101. The game, which sets players in the shoes of a small, mutated creature, has been more or less radio silent for months, though Experiment 101 has finally offered a small update on where Biomutant is at.

Taking to Twitter, Experiment 101 issued a statement to fans that the game is still on its way, assuaging fears that it may be canceled. “We are doing everything we can to make this the best game all of us have ever worked on,” the statement reads, “We can only hope for your continued support and patience as we complete the final stages of its development.” A retailer leaked Biomutant’s release date earlier this month, though it’s unclear if that leak is accurate, as it set the game for a mid-March release this year.

The statement further elaborates that there’s no solid release date yet, and none will be announced until the team is confident it can hit it. Biomutant gameplay demos have shown a lot of promise, with the game featuring visceral combat and interesting world design. However, updates on the game’s progress have been infrequent. Biomutant did have a presence at Gamescom last year, but there’s been little else since then. However, that the game is in its “final stages” should be reassuring to fans that have been anxiously awaiting the game.

THQ Nordic, Biomutant’s publisher, has had quite a few titles floating around, ranging from large, highly anticipated releases, down to smaller games and remakes– like the Destroy All Humans remake announced at E3 2019. For the past few years, THQ Nordic has invested heavily in its lineup of development studios, turning the developer into a formidable force in the games industry.

Biomutant’s unique open-world should prove to be an interesting place for players to explore when the game does finally release, and Experiment 101’s language does make it seem like the isn’t too far off. There’s a pretty good chance that gamers will get their hands on it this year, though that does depend on quite a few factors.

For now, all fans can do is rewatch older gameplay demos and hope for more updates soon. The game seems interesting, but if Experiment 101 needs more time to finish it, it’s probably best to give it to the developer.

Biomutant is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
