Bethesda’s VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines has said that he’s unsure whether the publisher will host a press conference at next year’s E3, saying that this year “felt like the right time” to put on such an event.
“I don’t know if we’ll do one next year,” Hines told The Telegraph. “I don’t know if we’ll do one again. This year felt like the right time to do this kind of thing.”
Bethesda hosted its first ever E3 showcase two days prior to the show kicking off last week, where it revealed the first gameplay footage of DOOM and Fallout 4, and announced upcoming stealth sequel Dishonored 2.
Hines’ comments, however, suggest that the publisher may only host such an event when it has the lineup of games to justify it.
“[Hosting a press conference] felt like more than we could accomplish in a booth,” Hines said earlier in the interview. “More importantly, no matter what we do in our booth, we only get a subset of people that attend E3. I’m not sure what the attendance is this year but let’s say 40,000. There’s no way we’re getting 40,000 people to our booth to see everything. You’re lucky to get four.
“So part of it was if we do have this line up and feel good about it we need to do it in a way that everybody can see it whether they’re here or not. Anybody who wants to can see what we have to show about Fallout 4. There’s no mystery, we’re not trying to hide anything or exclude people. Whether it’s press or retail or fans or whomever.”
E3 2016 is due to take place at the LA Convention Centre between June 14-16, with most of the games revealed during Bethesda’s press conference expected to release prior to next year’s event.
