The three categories of heroes in Overwatch 2 –Tank, Support, and Damage– allow players to choose from a diverse cast. However, if you want a character who protects the team from enemy attacks, we’ve created this guide that ranks the best Tanks of Overwatch 2 to give you better insight to the latest versions of these characters.
10. Doomfist
Doomfist is one of the Tank heroes of Overwatch 2 that can deal damage at close range with his Hand Cannon. Unfortunately, this weapon does shoot at a reasonably slow rate, and it can be challenging to take down an enemy. Despite this feature, he can still launch a powerful attack with his Seismic Slam and guard himself with the Power Block. You can then initiate Doomfist’s Meteor Strike to select a designated area for his brutal strike.
9. Wrecking Ball
Wrecking Ball is a Tank hero of Overwatch 2 who excels in mobility and has a high fire rate. For example, his Roll allows you to move around the area quickly, and his Grappling Claw can rapidly knock down foes. When there are a lot of enemies close by, players can launch Wrecking Ball’s Adaptative Shield to temporarily gain health or use his Piledriver to slam them to the ground. Moreover, you can take things a step further by performing his Minefield to attack the opposing team with a massive field of proximity mines.
8. Reinhardt
Reinhardt is one of the best defenders of Overwatch 2 who can protect the team by wielding his Barrier Field. As a result, opponents must approach the character at a close range, which is a great time to utilize his Rocket Hammer. Besides his weapon, you can maximize Reinhardt’s strength with his Charge to smash an enemy against the wall or initiate his Ultimate, Earthshatter, to knock down any foes in front of you.
7. Roadhog
Roadhog is an aggressive character who can get rid of groups of enemies with his Scrap Gun, an effective weapon for short and medium-ranged attacks. Furthermore, players can wield his Chain Hook to drag an opponent to their position and possibly eliminate them in the process. On top of these features, Roadhog is able to heal himself with Take A Breather and injure enemies with his Ultimate, Whole Hog.
That being said, because Overwatch 2 has now adopted the 5v5 format, Roadhog isn’t quite able to live up to his full potential anymore. As the sole tank on the team, Roadhog doesn’t have the freedom to flank, and needs to constantly be in the frontlines to protect his teammates. And on that front, he doesn’t exactly have any great mitigation tools to soak up damage while shielding the team.
6. Sigma
Like Reinhardt, Sigma protects the group with his Experimental Barrier, where you can create additional shields by absorbing projectiles when Kinetic Grasp is activated. Other than his defensive strategies, his Hyperspheres can deal immense damage to opponents, which will implode after a short duration. Once players unlock Sigma’s Gravitic Flux, they can lift enemies into the air and injure them by slamming them to the ground.
5. Winston
If you want to defend your team from enemies, Winston’s Barrier Projector is extremely useful during intense moments. In addition, his Jump Pack can get you around the map faster while injuring opponents within its radius. But keep in mind that this ability can make you vulnerable to other enemies nearby, so it’s best to utilize his Tesla Cannon against them. Players will also get the chance to use Winston’s Ultimate, Primal Rage, to unleash a series of leaping attacks and gain a tremendous amount of health.
4. Junker Queen
The latest addition to the Overwatch 2 team, Junker Queen is a balanced Tank hero with fast mobility and powerful attacks. This character can withstand enemies on her own by using her Scattergun and Carnage that can damage nearby rivals. If you find yourself in a dire situation, you can release her Commanding Shout to receive a temporary burst of health and gradually heal over time with her Passive talents. Similar to Winston, Junker Queen can unlock Rampage to charge forward and prevent foes from healing.
3. Orisa
Orisa’s Augmented Fusion Driver is one of the most powerful weapons of Overwatch 2 that can deal more damage when at a close range. She also has many abilities that can be excellent for defensive and offensive strategies. In particular, her Fortify will grant players with temporary health and shield them from projectiles. When there is a extensive amount of foes near you, you can perform Orisa’s Terra Surge to anchor them down and damage everyone within its radius.
2. Zarya
What makes Zarya an exceptional Tank of the game is her potent weapon, the Particle Cannon. This device will produce a linear beam that can injure opponents and take down hordes of enemies with its grenade launcher. Additionally, players will be able to protect themselves and their team by activating the Particle and Project Barriers. Lastly, you can perform her Graviton Surge to pull enemies to the gravity well, where you can utilize the Particle Cannon to eliminate them.
1. D.VA
The fan-favorite D.VA proves her worth once again in Overwatch 2 as one of the best Tanks in the game. Her Fusion Cannon has a rapid fire rate, while her Micro Missiles releases explosive rockets that can heavily damage enemies. As for her defensive tactics, she can block projectiles with the Defense Matrix ability and use her Boosters to get out of tight situations or launch rivals out of the way.
Those who lose their Mech suit in battle will get the opportunity to regain their strength once they are ejected from the device. Even if the character is in a vulnerable state without the suit, players can still use this time to defeat foes and eventually call their Mech after some time has passed. When all else fails, you can initiate her Self-Destruct, an Ulimate attack that can kill groups of opponents.
That does it for our rank of the best Tanks in Overwatch 2. While you are here, you can check out more content about the game by looking at our guide about the best healers and exploring any of the relevant links below.
