Beats Fit Pro vs. Powerbeats Pro: What’s the Difference?
Design
The flagship wireless earbuds from one of the world’s leading audio companies, the Beats Fit Pro, have a compact yet wispy design. The Fit Pro features small wingtips that curve along the contour of your ear, fitting as though they belonged. Despite their light build, you won’t have to worry about them falling out.
Created with state-of-the-art materials, the Beats Fit Pro earbuds are durable enough to withstand the workout you put them through. With an IPX4 waterproof rating, they’re also resistant to sweat and moisture; no matter how hard you push, you can expect the Beats Fit Pro buds to carry on as well.
For those that aren’t trying to fuss with keeping their earbuds in while exercising, the Powerbeats Pro utilizes a big, sturdy design without standing out so much. Instead of eartips, these earbuds have bendable ear hooks that you can adjust to the shape of your ear. These make them practically immovable while you’re putting in the hard work — one less distraction to worry about.
Similarly, the Powerbeats Pro have an IPX4 certification. While you shouldn’t submerge them in the pool, they can definitely resist sweat. This, along with its hefty frame, makes it ideal for even the most intense exercise sessions.
Battery Life
Speaking of carrying on, Apple Beats’ newest product, the Fit Pro, features a pretty decent battery life as well. They can run continuously for about six hours with ANC turned on and seven hours with it off. To charge the earbuds, simply place them in the charging case they come with.
We like the Beats Fit Pro, but we wish more effort was put into the case. Less than 2.5 inches squared and weighing less than two ounces, the incredibly stripped charging case has trouble keeping itself together. Yeah, it might be easy to carry, but the lid is flimsy and comes open from time to time. What good is a case if it doesn’t stay shut?
The Beats Fit Pro charging case also falls short while charging. It’s big enough to hold up to 30 hours of power, but it only features a USB-C port instead of the incredibly fast Lightning port. Still, the case can provide a fast charge to the earbuds, offering up to an hour’s worth of use with only 5 minutes of charging.
What really makes the Powerbeats Pro stand out is its huge battery. These earbuds have enough power to play your favorite jams for up to 9 hours, more than any other wireless model on the market. And, with the charging case at full capacity, listeners can expect up to 24 hours of battery life before needing more power.
Speaking of the charging case, it’s also pretty large; it’s over twice the weight of the Beats Fit Pro. While this doesn’t make it particularly portable, it’s got some kick to it. The case can fast charge your headset for up to 90 minutes of listening time in just 5 minutes and over four hours in 15. The biggest thumbs-up? This charging case has a Lightning port for quick charging of its own.
Sound
Promoted as one of the best workout earbuds on the market, the Beats Fit Pro puts bass notes at the forefront. This enhances much of the music that people listen to while at the gym. They don’t sacrifice mids, lows, or highs, but it’s important to note that the music synthesis might need to be modified for casual listening.
Where these earbuds succeed in audio output, they start to lack in input. The Beats Fit Pro include six mics and a voice accelerometer to aid in minimizing background noise and promoting clear calls. However, due to the earbuds’ slender frame, they simply struggle to keep up with the surroundings. If you plan on making regular calls, your best bet is to bring them inside.
While the Powerbeats Pro doesn’t come equipped with audio-enhancing features such as ANC or adaptive EQ, it still provides great audio quality. Because of its snug fit with contoured hooks and four earpiece sizes, your music goes straight to your ears without displacement. This results in strong bass with a great definition along with vibrant trebles.
Additionally, the placement of these earbuds makes them a solid option for making calls. The Powerbeats Pro features four microphones and a speech-detecting accelerometer for talking without interference. Just know that with their weight, you might start to notice them hanging on your ears after an hour or two.
Price
The one thing that’s hard to get behind is its price. Now four years old, the Powerbeats Pro still has a market price of $249.95. We get that they’re more durable and feature a hefty charging case, but it’s hard to commit to that price without the features you can find in the Fit Pro. However, if you buy them this holiday season, you can find the Powerbeats Pro for $70 off the stated cost.

One of our favorite features that the Beats Fit Pro is its active noise cancellation (ANC). This technology is finding widescale adoption as more people look for high-quality earbuds. While using ANC, these pieces remarkably silence all but the loud background noises.

Powerbeats Pro: Features
Having released in 2018, it’s no surprise that the Powerbeats Pro doesn’t include the newest technology. While they make great vessels for delivering your music to your ear while working out, don’t expect them to provide noise canceling or any transparency. Still, they have the same H1 chip as the Fit Pro and some of the features you’d expect in quality, wireless earbuds.
Where this older model still shines over the new, slender design is in its function. While both earbuds connect to Android, the Powerbeats Pro makes it even easier to control your music. The earbuds include buttons (center playback and volume rockers) on both sides. They even work with Google Assistant for more voice commands.
