The Batman video game announcement that fans have been waiting for for years continues to be heavily rumored going into tonight’s The Game Awards 2019 event. Warner Bros. routinely participates in The Game Awards each this year and speculation regarding whatever the WB Games Montreal studio is working on is at a peak. Just to add fuel to the fire, Batman’s voice actor from Batman Arkham Origins is now telling fans that they should watch The Game Awards 2019 for a special announcement.

Roger Craig Smith is a prominent voice actor in the film, television, anime, and video game industry. He voices Mirage in Apex Legends, Sonic in Super Smash Bros. franchise and more, and Captain America in all manner of cartoons. The list is simply too long to summarize easily. But it’s his Batman role in WB Games Montreal’s most recent game that’s drawing attention to him today. Fans want to know what WB Games Montreal is working on and Roger Craig Smith has always given his fans hints about his upcoming projects.

Today Smith dropped a big hint on Twitter. “Keep them eyes and ears on @thegameawards tonight! Got a little somethin’ we’re cookin’ up for ya…” is the message that Smith posted, along with a link to a stream for The Game Awards 2019. Smith posted no overt reference to what game might be shown, which should keep the speculation going up and through the event. It’s just enough to give fans of the Batman franchise hope, though.

Given Smith’s robust experience with voice acting makes this a potential red herring, it must be repeated. While most video game fans are likely thinking about Batman and Batman only, any of Smith’s other roles could potentially be what he’s referring to. Sega may be announcing a new Sonic the Hedgehog game at the show, for instance. Or, like other rumors have insinuated, a new Crash Team Racing game could be announced. Smith voices one of the racers, after all.

Before anyone goes and says that a Batman game announcement is still a certainty, it’s important to recall something that The Game Awards producer and host Geoff Keighley has said. Keighley has said repeatedly, up until the past several days, that none of The Game Awards 2019’s game announcements have leaked yet. With that in mind, WB Games Montreal’s Batman game has been one of the most rumored and speculated upon announcements of The Game Awards 2019. Going by Keighley’s words, that means it’s not planned to be announced. To be fair, Keighley may not be trustworthy in that regard, either.

The Game Awards 2019 airs tonight at 5:30 pm PT.
