The retelling of Goku’s adventures in Dragon Ball Z won’t be hitting Nintendo’s latest system in the future, as Bandai Namco has confirmed that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will not be released for the Nintendo Switch.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an upcoming action RPG that will follow the story of Dragon Ball Z, starting with Raditz’s arrival on Earth and ending with the battle against Kid Buu. The game will feature new scenes that were not depicted in the Dragon Ball manga or Dragon Ball Z anime, such as an encounter between Goku and Piccolo that happens after Gohan is born but before Raditz arrives on Earth, and will include new characters created by Akira Toriyama.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but there are no plans to release the game for the Nintendo Switch. AltChar reached out to Bandai Namco for confirmation and it was confirmed that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is only planned to come to PC and the other home consoles.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is being developed by CyberConnect22 and published by Bandai Namco, both of which have had close relationships with Nintendo in the past. Bandai Namco has contributed to games like Arms, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Mario Kart Tour in recent years, so it’s clear that the company isn’t averse to working with Nintendo.
The ever-growing popularity of the Nintendo Switch has led to some surprise ports, such as Overwatch and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, so it’s possible that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be released for the Nintendo Switch further down the line, assuming that it succeeds on its current platforms. Dragon Ball FighterZ was another title that took a little time to come to the Nintendo Switch, but it received a well-made port that kept up with the other versions of the game. It’s possible that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will also receive a functional, but technically inferior port for the Nintendo Switch in the future.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on January 17, 2020.
