In Baldur’s Gate 3, you can encounter a bunch of ogres that are hungry for man-flesh. Here’s our mini-guide on how to obtain the Ogre summoning item: Lump’s War Horn.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Lump’s War Horn and summoning Ogres to battle

Just to be clear, I’m not 100% certain what will let you start the dialogue successfully. What I do know is that, during my second Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough, I did encounter a dying dwarf and two other characters just outside and west of the Druid Grove area. They kept calling my character a marked one of the “Absolute.”

After a short conversation (and likely a fight), you can destroy the tadpole that scurries out of the Dwarf’s head. From this point, your party is aware of something called the Absolute.

After dealing with Scratch the Dog and the Owlbear Cave/Gilded Chest of Selûne, I found myself inside the Blighted Village area. Regardless of how I dealt with the goblins, I spotted three ogres inside one of the houses in the northwestern section of the village.

The group, led by Lump the Enlightened, thought my party was “food.” But, a Deception check popped up that let me mention I’m chosen by the Absolute. Lump was more than eager to converse after that.

Eventually, a dialogue option to have Lump and co. work for me was offered:

  • Pay 500 gold
  • Deception – I’ll pay you 1,000 gold after fighting for me.
  • Persuasion – I’ll let you eat the flesh of enemies.

Note: Your companions will either approve or disapprove of your decision here.

If you acquire Lump the Enlightened’s services, you’re given the ogre summoning item: Lump’s War Horn. You can add it to your hotbar if you prefer.

I tested it out while fighting a couple of goblin guards and, well, the three ogres just stood there. Lump even scoffed at me saying that they’re just meant to be summoned (implying that he probably doesn’t plan on doing the killing himself).

Anyway, you have an additional dialogue. I chose the “eat the flesh of enemies” option earlier, so these were my choices:

  • Pay 500 gold again.
  • Deception – Pay 1,000 gold next time.

You can also let Lump, uh, “lick” your character’s skin which grants companion approval/disapproval. I guess that’s that… or is it? When I tried to use Lump’s War Horn again, the Ogre summon didn’t work. Whether it’ll be usable again once we’ve got more acts/chapters in Baldur’s Gate 3 remains to be seen.
