Assassin’s Creed Origins is set in the lands of Ancient Egypt where you play as Bayek of Siwa. The graphics of the game were exceptional, but the determination and ambition of Bayek and his wife are the reason why players buy the game. You explore the ancient world they have recreated, and some areas are better than others.

A few of these areas were created with an artist’s touch, while others failed to see the bigger picture. Players hated going to these areas where the quests were lacking and the area was bleak. Keep reading to learn about 5 of the best areas in Assassin’s Creed Origins and 5 that are just terrible!

10 10. Best: Faiyum

An oasis is defined as an area of the desert where water can be found. The oasis in the game is no different in this area as over 50% of it is covered in water. Players loved the combination of land and sea, as many quests could be found here, as well as some animals whose hides you needed to upgrade your equipment.

It was utterly breathtaking as the combination of plants with Egyptian architecture took our breath away as we played through this area of the map.

9 9. Terrible: Herakleion Nome

There are some neat areas within the Herakleion Nome, but it lacks in things for players to do. A few sidequests exist to keep you entertained, and they fail miserably at their job.

Players don’t want to spend hours sifting through the water to complete them, and the quests on land are similar to those in other areas that they have already completed too many times. Overall, we would say this area is a bust and not somewhere you should waste your time.

8 8. Best: Black Desert

There is so much to explore in the Black Desert, as well as tiny hidden clues and pieces of information that were added into the game. This is another open area, but there is so much to do that it forces you not to fast travel from place to place.

It takes the game back to its roots as you explore the surrounding area for clues and hidden treasures that you might have otherwise missed. Players also love climbing to the highest points and looking out to see places like Alexandria glowing brightly and beautifully in the distance.

7 7. Terrible: Memphis

This area was slightly confusing as the first time you arrive there is poison in the air and sewers. It gives it a weird look and some players have issues figuring this out. You would think it would become better once the colors were back to normal after you completed a quest, and you would be so wrong.

The canal system in this area made it utterly unbearable. Players complain of consistently falling off of their horses, or wading at slow paces due to the water that wasn’t high enough to swim. We wanted to love this part of the map, and it was disappointing when we uncovered how truly awful it was.

6 6. Best: Cyrene

Players who love architecture and vegetations have become obsessed with this area of the map. It focused on Roman architecture, although the arena was a bit overplayed as players weren’t enthused by the elite fights.

The main quest does go through this area though so there is always the storyline to look forward to when traversing the city. If gladiator fights aren’t your thing, you can always explore the city on your own as there are quite a few fun side quests, like Smugglers of Cyrene.

5 5. Terrible: Krokodilopolis

This was another city that players were meant to fall in love with, and we did in the aesthetic aspect. It was another place where water overtook our every thought as we attempted to make our way through the city without the water killing us in the process.

There were several who loved the city and its many quests, but we just couldn’t find a way past the excessive water that made it hard to navigate the landscape. If they would have reduced the number of waterways through the city, then it would have probably made it one of our favorites.

4 4. Best: Alexandria

This city is the one that transports us back in time to the days of the Ancient Egyptians. Some say it is too small, but the amount of detail combined with the incredible quests made it one of the favorite cities of all-time among players. There is a lot of water, although, the walkways make it navigable, unlike other areas in this world.

It has 4 papyrus puzzles, 3 synchronization points, and 1 fast travel, as well as 9 side quests. Players could tell this was their pride and joy of the game as they put a lot of effort into the detail to make it everyone else’s too.

3 3. Terrible: Desheret Desert

This area was terrible because there was not much to do here. It was all desert with only a few quests, and even those were minimal. The surrounding area was covered in sand and it felt like a waste to travel all that distance for nothing.

The Ancient Mechanism was located here, which meant that nothing else took priority in the region. We were fairly disappointed, to say the least, and this is one area they probably could have cut from the game altogether.

2 2. Best: Green Mountains

The name of this place alone puts butterflies in your stomach, and it lives up to its name by including excessive vegetation.  The area is quite large with plenty of activities to do that vary enough to keep players entertained. It might not be superpopulated and built-up like some of the cities, but the purpose was not to showcase this aspect of ancient life.

This area opened your eyes to what travel was like back in the day. We were in awe of the scenery as we trotted along on our horse and it is one place you will want to visit again and again.

1 1. Terrible: Letopolis

This city is located in the Sapi-Res Nome region and we were not a fan. The entire thing was surrounded by sand and it made it fairly bland. It appeared decrepit and uneventful, especially when compared to other powerhouse cities like Alexandria.

This city was involved in the main storyline, and we found ourselves bored by the end of his time spent here. There were so many better options to consider, and we wish the developers would have done more with this poor excuse in the game.
