The Assassin’s Creed movie will go against the template set out by Ubisoft’s video game franchise, setting the majority of the action in the modern day rather than in the past.
Executive producer Pat Crowley told IGN on a recent set visit that 65 per cent of the film takes place in the present day, with only 35 per cent of the film in 15th Century Spain.
Given how terrible video game films tend to be, perhaps we should be pleased the movie makers are putting their own stamp on the production.
“There are certain things that we absolutely want to respect in the game,” star Michael Fassbender told IGN, “but we also want to bring new elements to the game.”
He added: “This isn’t a video game that we’re making. We’re trying to make a cinematic experience, so there are new things that we have to introduce.”
