At the start of the month the announcement of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood snook up on us like, well - an assassin. There were few details available at the time, the biggest of which being that Brotherhood will be the first game in the Assassin’s Creed series to feature a multiplayer component.

While this news came as a surprise to many people, myself included, today developer Ubisoft, announced they will releasing a multiplayer beta of the stealthy stab-em-up.

The news was revealed by Ubisoft executives at a recent investors call; where they kept it brief, simply saying:

So there you have it folks, we can somewhat unsurprisingly expect to see more info on the next instalment of the Assassin’s Creed franchise at E3. There’s no release date, no word on how it will distributed, or even if it will be an open or closed beta.

“We will have a beta test. We have not announced a date yet but it is part of the plans. …see and know more about that at E3”

Personally, I am a little unconvinced on a multiplayer Assassin’s Creed, it’s not a direction I ever thought the series needed to go. Still, as long as Brotherhood has a sizeable single player offering, I’ll undoubtedly be returning to Renaissance era Italy faster than you can say ‘Jade Raymond’.

So Ranters, are you excited to be re-entering the Animus once more?

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood is due sometime during Q4 2010. It will be available for Xbox 360, PS3 & Windows.
