An often unanimous conclusion among fans of Assassin’s Creed is that Ezio Auditore de Firenze was the best protagonist in the series. Having followed the character right from his birth into his last day as an assassin, fans have had enough material to make hundreds of memes out of Ezio.
With 2020 bringing in a new Assassin’s Creed game and a brand new protagonist, it’s best to remember the peak when it came to a protagonist in the series, and there’s no better way than to indulge in these 10 hilarious memes about Ezio. Not only was he the best hero, he also ended up being the best character to create these memes.
10 Weirdly Compassionate Ezio
There’s no question that the Templars are the most evil bunch in the series, yet Ezio still took time out to give his victim their last rites. While this was meant to illustrate how assassins had respect for death, it does sound silly on paper.
Ezio was shown to fiercely target a Templar’s death, only to become quite soft once he had them dying in his arms, even going so far as to gladly listen to them admitting their evil ways.
9 Only One Possibility
One thing was for certain during the time the series was set in the Renaissance Era, which was that any major character death had to do with Ezio. Once the assassin had a target in mind, you could be certain he would have his kill.
This made the scenes where characters questioned how someone could die to be redundant, seeing as it should have been obvious that Ezio would be behind it as he’d been responsible for every death before that as well.
8 A Little Overreaction
It was quite an ingenious move on the series’ part that a full-blown economy was put in place in order to explain how Ezio made his money. However, this wasn’t completely thought out, as the way to get money would be to buy entire banks.
Not only did Ezio purchase the banks where he got his money from, the game made it appear as if he had bought every bank possible. This was certainly an overreaction on Ezio’s part; didn’t he ever hear about having just one savings account?
7 Now That’s A Fail
A weird habit of the trailers in the Ezio Trilogy had to do with showing the main character being confronted by enemies in broad daylight. This defeated the purpose of him being an assassin, since being caught so easily would imply Ezio was an awful assassin.
What’s more, the trailers then took it up a notch by showing Ezio not only killing someone openly, he would also walk around the guards as if expecting them not to catch on how he had just taken someone’s life.
6 What Did They Teach In Assassin School?
wasn’t until Assassin’s Creed III that the series had the main character be able to have contact with surfaces other than the generic buildings. Unfortunately for Ezio, his games made him look like a fool.
Although he was supposed to be a master assassin who could leap off impossible heights, Ezio couldn’t, for some reason, climb simple things like trees. The only time this was possible was when the plot demanded it; other than that, it appeared as if Ezio might have some kind of tree-phobia. Maybe a Piece of Eden could have helped?
5 Easy There, Ezio
One of the most fun parts of the Ezio Trilogy was the option of beating up passersby just for the heck of it. Some players even liked to kill the pedestrians for fun, which would’ve looked completely out of character if it was in canon.
For instance, a simple task like getting flowers for Sofia would’ve set the stage for a blood bath had the player’s antics been canon at that point, as it would’ve made Ezio out to look like a crazed killer.
4 Not Exactly Sticking To Continuity
If continuity is important to you, then you’re going to hate playing through the Ezio Trilogy as no character shows any outright signs of aging. The most egregious example was Ezio in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, and this seemed like a sudden leap in aging since Ezio had looked perpetually young beforehand.
During the events of Assassin’s Creed II and Brotherhood, a timeline that spanned from 1476 to 1507, the only difference in Ezio’s appearance had been a goatee. This was still better than other characters, though, as Ezio’s younger sister looked 15 when she was supposed to be in her forties!
3 Yup, Sounds About Right
If you didn’t break out in laughter upon first read of this meme then it’s confirmation you didn’t play much of Assassin’s Creed II. Fans will know that this quote was heard the most out of any in the series.
Every time Ezio returned to Monteriggioni, the architect there would greet Ezio with these words in an overzealous manner. The funny thing was how the guy was seemingly doing the same thing and saying the same greeting for more than twenty years and didn’t skip a beat.
2 A Slave For Appearances
You’d think being rendered nearly blind would spark the need for a fashion change, yet Ezio persisted with this look all his life. Where practicality comes in, the look really does Ezio no favors as it should logically make him helpless to see.
Even funnier is how the hood didn’t really hide his face either, meaning that Ezio was basically a guy whom people could see, but he himself couldn’t see them. That doesn’t exactly scream a master assassin, does it?
1 A Personal Choice
It might look silly how Ezio was used by players to scale walls on regular occasions despite there being ladders right next to him, but anyone who’s played the Ezio Trilogy extensively will agree that the ladders only make one slow.
For this reason, players prefer to climb their way forward, even though that isn’t much faster either. The original meme here poked fun at the practice of leaving ladders unattended, but the truth is that not using them was a personal choice all along.
