ARK: Survival Evolved’s eSports spin-off, ARK: Survival of the Fittest, will release on PS4 in beta on July 19, Studio Wildcard has announced.
Described by the developer as a ‘Multiplayer Online Survival Arena’ game (aka MOSA), Survival of the Fittest pits up to 72 players against each other in a dino/human fight to the death.
Multiple game modes are promised, including Free For All, and team-based 2-Player Tribes, 4-Player Tribes and 6-Player Tribes modes, with over 30 creatures available at launch.
The game will launch in beta with new arenas and creatures set to be introduced over time. A release date for the full game has yet to be announced.
“PlayStation gamers will now get the raw emotional sense of competitive satisfaction that PC gamers have been experiencing, as they wage war to survive and thrive,” said Studio Wildcard co-founder/creative director Jesse Rapczak. “The simple addition of the practice mode means a lot, as PS4 gamers can hone their skills before jumping into the competitive wilds to form tribes, tame T-Rexes, and use everything in the ARK sandbox to fight it out. We don’t call it Survival of the Fittest for nothing!”
ARK: Survival of the Fittest is free-to-play on Steam so, while unconfirmed, expect that to be the case on PS4, too. ARK: Survival Evolved, meanwhile, is expected to release in full on PS4, Xbox One and PC in June.
