After Respawn Entertainment pulled the ol’ switcheroo by touting Forge as the forthcoming Apex Legends legend until his sudden, bloody death, the community began to focus on the identity of his killer. This isn’t the first time players saw this mysterious character, now known to be Revenant. Back around Halloween, he oversaw the Apex Legends Fright or Flight event.
But Respawn loves to seed information that allows people to draw their own theories and conclusions about the story’s direction. It’s possible this video provides insight into the back story of yet another forthcoming legend.
A quick warning here that what follows contains spoilers and hypotheses based on leaked information.
The Season 4 trailer gives viewers insight into the forthcoming season’s trajectory, The video starts with Revenant examining a reflection of himself shaving, seemingly oblivious to the fact that he’s not actually a human.
The video’s YouTube description describes Revenant as “the greatest hitman the Mercenary Syndicate ever had.” In this film, he’s on a mission to kill a thief named Marcos Andrade.
The cinemagraphic then cuts to a dinner, where Andrade settles down with his wife and child. At the table, Andrade bestows his daughter with the gift of a small wolf statue.
Soon after, Revenant assassinates Andrade and his wife (who is believed to be a co-conspirator, as part of a Bonnie-and-Clyde type of operation). The child survives, as Andrade had pushed her to safety before Revenant could get to her.
At the end of the trailer, while behind her father’s dead body, the little girl grimaces with anger.
Who Is The Child?
According to the official Apex Legends Twitter account, the Season 4 cinemagraphic is a depiction of a 25-year-old cold case. This means the young girl, if still alive, would be in her early 30s in the game’s present tense.
Dataminer That1MiningGuy previously released a long list of legends, which he pulled from the game’s source code. It’s important to note that datamined information is always subject to changes and in some cases can even be intentionally misleading.
Still, there’s no denying that the game’s lore enthusiasts are well aware of a possible forthcoming legend nicknamed “Loba.” Many recent discoveries and clues indicate that she’s the child depicted in the cinemagraphic, and that she may also soon be a contender in the Apex Games.
For example, the family speaks Portuguese. The word “Loba” is the feminine form of the word “Wolf” in the Portuguese language. And, as mentioned previously, Loba’s father gives her the gift of a small wolf statue at dinner.
Further, the information provided by dataminers lists the Loba character as a thief with abilities that highlight looting and stealth movement. Given the fact that her parents were thieves, it would make sense that she learned a thing or two from them and wants to leverage it to her advantage in the Apex Games.
To further add fuel to this theory, a photograph of an Apex Legends motion capture session seeded a forthcoming character that uses a cane.
Upon close review, it appears that this item that Andrade bestows to the child may be a cane holder.
Andrade is wanted for stealing something that’s “worth more than ten generations of his entire
- family.” Could the wolf statue actually be a piece of covert technology that Loba will use in the game in a future season? Only the Apex Legends writers know for sure.
When Could Loba Arrive?
Typically, Apex Legends introduces one legend per season. However, Respawn has already shown it’s willing to shake things up. Recently, it announced the forthcoming Ranked Mode season will be divided between the World’s Edge map introduced in Season 3 and the game’s original map, Kings Canyon.
Some players believe this reset mean players also won’t have to wait a full season for another new legend.
What About Forge?
A prior cinematic showed Revenant stabbing Forge, presumably in an effort to take his place in the Apex Games. However, it’s possible Forge isn’t really dead.
In this sci-fi universe, it’s possible for people to reemerge in other forms, such as Revenant’s form as a simulacrum. People can travel through alternate timelines and dimensions, as shown in the Voidwalker cinemagraphic from Season 2.
Given that Forge was sponsored by Hammond Robotics, which has a stake in the Apex Games, it’s likely that the people in charge aren’t ready to let him go without a fight. Further, the screen doesn’t actually show Forge dying, which leads many to speculate there’s more to his story.
It seems strange to introduce a character merely for the purpose of killing them off, especially when there’s so much more rich subtext to explore among the characters that already exist. Therefore, it’s likely players will see Forge again in some form.
Apex Legends Season 4 is called “Assimilation” and begins on Feb. 4, 2020.
