While not quite as popular as it was around launch, Apex Legends isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Well into the game’s second season, Respawn’s free-to-play Battle Royale game did a lot to push the genre forward such as the ability to respawn teammates, as well as a Legend system that made every character play in a very unique way.
Let’s take a look at how each character works:
10 BANGALORE
Bangalore is a Legend that a lot of new players are going to take to very quickly, thanks to her pretty easy-to-use and familiar abilities.
Bangalore’s passive ability simply boosts her speed when under fire. This makes it that much easier to get into cover or close the gap on her enemies, all while making their job of actually shooting her that much more difficult.
Her active ability is a Smoke Canister (two of them, actually) that blankets an area of her choosing in smoke. This visual cover has a variety of uses, and can really throw an enemy off her scent. Just be warned that enemies are likely going throw about five-hundred grenades into the smoke, so be prepared for that.
Her Ultimate Ability drops artillery onto an area marked by a flare. This artillery drops in a vertical line forward from the position of the flare, so keep that in mind when throwing it out. This artillery does damage and slows enemies, but will slow teammates, as well.
9 BLOODHOUND
Bloodhound is currently the only Tracker-type Legend, making him pretty unique. Bloodhound can passively see enemy footprints left in the last minute or so, along with other information, like what weapon killed an enemy, how long ago the event happened, and so forth.
Bloodhound’s active ability scans the surrounding area, highlighting enemies and traps in the radius. This is another way to gain some good info, though be warned, it gives Bloodhound away just as much as any enemies.
Bloodhound’s Ultimate Ability boosts his movement speed and turns the surrounding area black and white while highlighting enemies red. This can really help in spotting enemies in unusual places, or those hiding in bushes (like cowards).
8 CAUSTIC
Caustic can be a real force to reckon with, but he can also really make it tough for the rest of his team, too. Passively, Caustic can see and move freely through his own gas.
His active ability is Gas Canisters, of which he can have six out at the same time. This Nox Gas damages, slows, and impairs enemies vision, though it does those last two to teammates, as well. These canisters detonate and spread the gas in a radius around them when shot or when an enemy gets too close. They can be disabled by shooting the base of the Canisters.
His Ultimate Ability is a Gas Grenade, which spreads his Nox Gas in a radius around where the grenade lands. This is a bit of an easier way to get the gas right where he wants it or to force an enemy out of a building/room.
7 GIBRALTAR
Gibraltar is a defensive Legend that can really help protect his team. His Passive Ability is a Gun-Shield that can be toggled on and off. This shield protects his torso while in a fight, essentially giving him a bit more health unless an enemy is tagging his head or his legs.
His Active Ability is a Dome-Shield that encapsulates everyone around in, well, a dome. This dome prevents all incoming and outgoing gunfire/ordnance, making it ideal for long-range fights where his team doesn’t have much cover, and for protecting his team from a Bangalore or another Gibraltar’s Ultimate.
Gibraltar’s Ultimate Ability calls down a Mortar Strike on an area around a location of his choosing. This strike doesn’t have a huge radius, but it does a ton of damage.
6 LIFELINE
Lifeline is a Combat Medic that, though received a few nerfs, is still more than capable of doing her job. Her Passive Ability allows her to use healing items 25% faster, as well as revive teammates a bit quicker and with the help of a protective shield.
Her Active Ability is a D.O.C. drone that refills the health of any teammate in the vicinity a hefty amount. This is great for saving syringes throughout the match.
Her Ultimate Ability calls down a Care Package that can contain purple-quality gear. While this can give her team a serious upgrade, it can also give the team’s location away, so use it wisely.
5 MIRAGE
Mirage is a Legend that has, quite literally, perfected the art of the bamboozle. His Passive Ability automatically cloaks him when he gets downed, creating a decoy of him in his place.
Mirage’s Active Ability is a Decoy that he can direct to run to a spot or to stand still. This decoy will reveal the enemy’s location when it gets shot, and is perfect for getting the enemy to look the wrong way while the real Mirage makes his move.
Mirage’s Ultimate Ability creates four decoy’s that stand still, while at the same time cloaking the real Mirage. This is fantastic for getting out of bad situations, and for creating a little bit of visual cover, too.
4 OCTANE
Octane is all about speed. His Passive Ability recharges his health over time, provided he’s not in combat. This can save him on Syringes, though it can still pay off to keep some around for those times he needs a heal quick.
Octane’s Active Ability is a Stim Shot that gives him greatly enhanced movement speed at the cost of a little a bit of damage. This is great for executing quick flanks, or for getting into cover quickly.
Octane’s Ultimate Ability is a Jump Pad that launches anybody who steps on it a pretty decent distance away. This can be a fantastic tool for getting the entire team onto a rooftop with ease, or for getting onto an enemy before they really even know what’s happening.
3 PATHFINDER
Pathfinder is the friendliest Legend in Apex. His Passive Ability allows him to connect to survey beacons scattered across the map, revealing the next ring location to his entire team.
Pathfinder’s Active Ability is a Grapple Line that can propel him with some serious speed. This Grapple Line can be used to get into some vertical areas enemies won’t expect, but more often it’s used to catapult him forward with absolutely ludicrous velocity.
Pathfinder’s Ultimate Ability is a Zip Line that can be used by anybody in the match.
2 WATTSON
Wattson is the newest Legend in Apex, and she is pretty powerful. Her Passive Ability allows Ultimate Accelerants to fully recharge her Ultimate Ability. (And she has a fantastic Ultimate we’ll talk about in a minute, so stock up on these.)
Wattson’s Active Ability is an Electric Fence that damages and slows enemies that pass through it. These fences can connect to each other provided they’re in range/line of sight, and she can have a total of twelve at the same time; she can really create a spiderweb of fences that totally prevent enemies from pushing through.
Wattson’s Ultimate Ability is a device that destroys incoming ordnance like grenades and Ultimate Abilities, recharges shields over time, and recharges her Electric Fences almost instantly.
1 WRAITH
Wraith is a Legend that, when used well, can be a real boon to the team, but when used poorly, can actually be a serious detriment. Her Passive Ability gives her a warning when an enemy looks at her.
Her Active Ability turns her intangible and difficult to see, allowing her to get to cover in relative safety, though she can’t reload or fire when in this state.
Wraith’s Ultimate Ability creates two Portals which transport anybody who passes into them to the other. This can help get your entire team into a place with speed, though it can benefit enemies just as much. One thing to note with these portals is that players exit them in whatever direction Wraith was facing when she activated them. So, she can make certain buildings/rooms inaccessible by placing Portals at each entrance while facing the right direction, while the Portals stay active.
