The 2019 Game Awards are in full swing and the reveals are continuing to roll in. Among the many surprise announcements, like official reveal of the new Xbox Console, Apex Legends’ own Mirage made an appearance to reveal some details about the game’s holiday event.

Mirage announced that the event is now live and with it comes a new limited-time game mode and plenty of new cosmetics to further customize the many legends in the game. The event runs for three weeks and features new challenges and items to earn, and a slew of new items available through the event-exclusive item packs.

The new Winter Express game mode tasks Apex Legends players with capturing the new holiday-themed train in the World’s Edge map - which received a big winter redesign alongside the event. Players will find the Mirage Voy’age hovering over the map, and the Winter Express traveling around as players drop into the winter-themed World’s Edge. There are several new cosmetics that players can earn for free by playing, including a legendary Mirage-themed G7 Scout skin and a legendary L-Star skin. As with previous events, there are also event-exclusive badges and loading screens to earn as well.

This modified objective-based mode tasks team with taking over the roaming train, and players earn rewards based on the number of times they capture the train - or the number of teams they defeat. Players have gotten accustomed to the best legends for World’s Edge, but some legends may be new favorites when it comes to this limited-time mode. Area-denial legends like Wattson and Caustic may have their time to shine about the train, whereas they were previously under-performing on the new map compared to King’s Canyon.

This event is structured much like the previous collection events, like the Halloween and Iron Crown events. The Holo-Day Bash features 24 event-exclusive items (12 Epic and 12 Legendary), and when players collect all 24 items they unlock the Pathfinder boxing glove heirloom for free. The skins did leak earlier ahead of the event, as well as some of the game-mode details, but now players can see all the new skins in-game.

Apex Legends received some pretty rough backlash following their Iron Crown collection event, but admittedly the price points for the latest events are not great and many fans are still upset. For this event, as with the Halloween event, players still have to purchase 24 packs to be able to get the Heirloom, and packs are 700 coins ($7 USD) for one, so if players want to unlock Pathfinder’s boxing gloves they will have to shell out a lot of money or wait until after the event to have a chance through regular packs. The event is now live, so fans will have to see for themselves if the event is worth sinking that much time or money into.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
