Apex Legends isn’t a week old, having dropped this Monday. But it’s been quite the wave and is attracting new players at an alarming rate.
The new battle royale title, created by Respawn Entertainment, has proven to be a huge hit and it’s beginning to seem like the gift that keeps on giving, with fresh discoveries and developments emerging every day since its release.
As you would expect, certain players have taken the time to explore the map. Such gamers are the National Geographic of the gaming world, they go in search of information in places we wouldn’t dare venture or simply don’t have time to. And lots of times, they return with goodies.
As such, gamers have returned from the wild to report various sightings, including the discovery of the small, stuffed dinosaur called Nessie from Titanfall and Titanfall 2. Nessie has been spotted in the training level of the recent release and longtime Respawn fans would be sure to recognize her.
Kotaku contacted Respawn for an explanation, and the company’s PR manager, Brad Hilderbrand obliged.
“The plush dino critter is Nessie, a long-running Respawn Easter Egg,” he said. “All the maps in Titanfall and Titanfall 2 had a hidden Nessie somewhere in them, so the team kept her legend alive in Apex.”
That isn’t all, though. A small dog has also been spotted in the market area of the King’s Canyon map, surrounded by framed pictures of itself and two individuals.
It has since been revealed that the dog’s name is Shadie. Apparently, the canine used to belong to Respawn lead designer Jason McMcord and his wife until she passed away from health complications after a 10-year lifespan.
Jason took to Twitter to explain Shadie’s inclusion.
“Our dog of 10 years passed away suddenly from health issues while I was working hard on Kings Canyon. As any animal lover knows, this was a crushing blow to my morale and made many days hard to come to work,” he wrote.
“Shadie was our best friend, and so I wanted her to live on in this little corner of the map. It legit makes me feel better to visit this area sometimes.”
Well, what better place for her to continue to live on? R.I.P Shadie, you’re a legend too.
