The new Apex Legends update 1.26 for Season 3 has just dropped on Playstation 4 and with it comes the new Grand Soiree event, as well as some changes to certain characters. Several bugs have also been fixed and the new Tournament Mode has been added.

Apex Legends has become one of the most popular battle royale games in recent times, and to keep the fans interested the developers continue to release new content. The Grand Soiree, hosted by Pathfinder, is the latest event following December’s Holo-bash and brings new limited-time modes to the game.

Answers.EA has the full list of update, but some of the limited arcade modes include a new third-person mode as well as a night game on the old King’s Canyon map. Other new modes include Always Be Closing, in which the ring never stops moving, Live.Die.Live with shotguns, sniper rifles, and limited armor, and Gold Rush Duos, which features gold weapons only. Each mode will only run for two days until the event closes on the 28th of January.

There have also been changes to certain characters with Gibraltar now able to heal teammates faster when inside his Dome Shield. Crypto has also been buffed with his surveillance drone getting increased health from 1 to 30 and his EMP no longer affecting teammates and friendly deployables. Wraith has been nerfed, and can no longer move at a combined speed of both abilities when activating  Dimensional Rift and Into the Void. The cooldown period for Into the Void has also been increased from 25 to 35 seconds.

Another major change is the removal of extended energy ammo mags. The default magazine size of the Triple Take remains unchanged at five, while the Havoc’s ammo capacity has been increased to 32 and the Devotion’s to 44. Respawn has admitted that the removal of the extended energy mags was a mistake and will make more sense once Season 4 is released.

Apart from the player and weapon changes, many other bugs have been fixed. There is also the introduction of the Tournament Mode, which will make it easier for tournament organizers to set up matches, and for spectators to have a better experience. The feature will make it easier to record live game footage, and arrange private player matches.

The Grand Soiree will give players a lot of variety to keep them entertained and follows the popular Winter Express mode that just ended. The character adjustments are welcome with Crypto in particular deserving to be buffed. Wraith is one of the most powerful characters in the game and the nerf is designed to cut her down to size. The removal of extended energy magazines hints at the introduction of the Volt submachine gun, another weapon from Titanfall 2, to be added in Season 4.
