Apex Legends fans, rejoice! You can now practice with the game’s full arsenal without the risk of being destroyed in the process.
Now, it’s always tough to get any real practice in when it comes to online games. A gamer’s sense of competitive pride often means that the stakes are far too high. We tend to stick with a character and set-up we’re familiar with, unwilling to switch things up because matchmaking is pairing us with players who are equally experienced.
In battle royale games, the whole situation is complicated further. You can never be sure which weapons you’re going to pick up, what your opponents are going to be armed with, or any number of other variables besides. It’s a messy business, especially considering just how merciless enemy players can be when there’s a victory royale at stake.
Apex Legends, the newest battle royale sensation on the block, has suffered from this issue since it was released back in February of this year. Being thrown unceremoniously into the fray leaves little chance for experimentation with different Legends, weapons, and pieces of gear, which is why patch 3.1 is going to be such a huge deal for the community. We’ve been crying out for a training area of some sort and Respawn Entertainment has delivered.
That’s right, the Firing Range the team promised last month is now live. As we reported at the time, it’s a safe little arena much like Overwatch’s, in which players are free to try loadouts of their choosing on training dummies. The trouble with those pesky online players is that they tend to shoot back (the nerve of them), so this is the perfect place to hone that most important of Apex Legends skills—aiming—undisturbed.
Polygon goes on to explain that you can hop into the Firing Range with a squad to make the experience feel a little more coordinated and bring it to life a bit. There’s something totally soulless about shooting at dummies in an empty area, after all. A new Duos queue has also been added (running until November 19), so this latest update is going to be a big one for Apex Legends fans who have been crying out for these additions.
