After a few confusing teaser trailers and misleading character hints, Revenant has arrived as the newest playable character in Apex Legends. His arrival is marked by the start of season 4, which has made changes to the map, added new guns and ammo, and tweaked many of the gameplay features for improvements.

Revenant’s character has been veiled in mystery. Leading up to season 4, many believed that Forge would be the next character in Apex Legends. Dataminers were able to find details on Forge, including potential abilities and his physical measurements. However, in a trailer before season 4’s launch, Revenant is seen stabbing Forge. This was eventually proved to be a foreshadowing, as Revenant is officially the face of season 4.

Revenant is a robot assassin who has had a human’s mind implanted into his body. His robotic body and mind of a ruthless assassin has given him abilities that far outclass any human. Based on his release trailer, Revenant aims to track down the corporation who made him, and seek revenge for what they have done. The corporation is known as Hammond robotics, which is plastered all over the building of the updated in-game map.

Revenant possesses three abilities in-game. His passive ability enables him to crouch-walk faster and climb higher than other characters. He also has the “Low Profile” passive, which makes him more difficult to hit, but increases damage taken by 5%. Lifeline, Pathfinder, Wattson, and Wraith also have the “Low Profile” passive as well.

Revenant’s tactical, called “Silence”, enables him to throw a bomb that disables abilities and prevents characters from using them while affected. The bomb also does 10 damage to the area where thrown. Revenant’s ultimate ability, meanwhile, may be a little confusing, but it is an effective ability when used correctly. “Death Totem” is Revenant’s ultimate, in which he is able to place a dark totem in front of him. After the totem is placed, any player can activate it, giving them death protection. While under death protection, any killing blow will transport the player back to the totem, giving them another chance at life. However, there is a catch to this seemingly overpowered ultimate. When under death protection from the totem, shields are disabled and healing items cannot be used. Death Totem also has a limited range, so death protection will wear out if a player leaves the range.

Revenant’s abilities enable teams to shut down enemy abilities and gives a tactical advantage using the Death Totem for surprising comebacks. The goal with any new character and gameplay tweak is to change the game enough to keep players entertained, but maintain the core values of the game. Apex Legends has done this with the map changes, gun updates, and introduction of Revenant.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
