Crypto is all the rage in Apex Legends right now and players are scrambling to master his abilities on the battlefield. Those who have tried out the new character know that his abilities revolve around his remote-controlled drone. The small, airborne bot has multiple functions – surveillance, EMP blasts – but like all legends, players tend to find out more nuanced applications of their abilities as time passes. Already, creative new uses of the drone have popped up around the community. Here are 5 things you probably don’t know about Crypto’s drone companion.

1. It Can Carry Gibraltar’s Dome Shield

That’s right – when placed properly, Gibraltar’s dome shield can be balanced on top of Crypto’s drone and flown around (around 1 minute into the video). There likely isn’t a good situation to use this, aside from, perhaps, using it to provide mobile cover for teammates who are trying to push a fortified area. More than anything, most players definitely don’t know that this is possible and it could make for some hilarious surprises on the battlefield.

2. Pathfinder Can Grapple It

One of the most entertaining uses of Crypto’s drone is having it hurl a Pathfinder across the map. Pathfinder’s grapple ability is momentum-based and Crypto’s drone can fly fairly quickly; This makes for a fun combination. If the Pathfinder times a running grapple maneuver correctly onto Crypto’s drone, it can continue to pull the Pathfinder forward and up, potentially launching him great distances for surprise attacks or quick escapes.

3. It Can Hack Kill Leader Banners

A more practical application than the previous two, Crypto’s drone can actually “hack” the leaderboard banners to detect how many squads are within a 200 meter radius. When the drone approaches a set of banners, they will cease displaying the usual data on the champion squad/kill leader and instead display a simple graphic that shows how many squads are nearby. Use this info to properly prepare for a fight!

4. It Can Recover Banners

Another very handy trick to keep in mind while operating the drone is that it can grab his teammates banners! This can be invaluable when banners are in dangerous positions; The drone can fly outside of the circle and into the “storm” to pick them up, or simply fly in to make a quick grab if the banners are surrounded by enemies. Either way, there is much less risk when using the drone for this task – and even if it is safe – using the drone is faster than running!

5. Its EMP Blast Can Be Countered

This last bit of information is imperative to know for both Crypto and non-Crypto players. If a player drops their armor right before the drone detonates an EMP blast, no damage will be taken at all! Therefore, Crypto players need to keep a close eye on whether or not their EMPs actually do shield damage, and opposing squads will do well to get into the habit of dropping their armor right before an EMP blast goes off. Consequently, there is a hard-counter to Crpyto’s ultimate ability which will certainly make both using Crypto and playing against him a bit more interesting.
