Dreams of an Ape Escape remake have been dashed as the official anniversary account for the series has shut down with no news (via Push Square).

The account popped up in June 2019, and celebrated the new year in January 2020 with assurances of “lots of important information” to come. There were a few cryptic posts, along with a handful of new pieces of merchandise, but now, the account has sadly bid farewell to Ape Escape fans across the world.

In a series of tweets, a monkey from Ape Escape trots out of a building, saying that they loved their anniversary parties, but now they’re on their way. “There are things that I could and couldn’t do in the last year, but I have some regrets,” said the monkey in the post. A strange thing to say, isn’t it? Is the monkey suggesting that there was a revival or a remake in the works but it was cancelled before they could make the announcement?

The monkey doesn’t rule out a return, though, and promises they’ll escape when they get the opportunity once more. It’s a little disappointing, but, I’ll point out that neither SIE Japan Studio nor Sony hinted that there would be a new game this year. And, the monkey seemed to be optimistic about the future! So. We’ll keep you updated if we hear anything else about Ape Escape.
