BioWare has recently announced that some of Anthem’s anticipated features, including the Cataclysm event, will be delayed.
After a rocky start to the month, things were finally beginning to look up for Anthem players. The delayed livestream went ahead and a large game patch hit and brought with it the new Sunken Cell Stronghold, some new features, and a number of bug fixes. However, then it all went wrong.
In a move that pretty much everyone saw coming, BioWare put out an announcement with the patch that stated several other anticipated features, due to be released soon, are now delayed for an unspecified amount of time.
Lead Producer Ben Irving and Head of Live Services Chad Robertson made the announcement, which was posted to the Anthem subreddit.
They acknowledged some of the issues that have plagued Anthem in the 10 weeks since its release and discussed the game’s priorities going forward. The statement says: “We’ve fixed a lot of bugs and made changes, which we believe begin to point us in the right direction for the future. That being said, we know there is a long way to go before Anthem becomes the game we all want it to be.”
Many players feel this is a gross understatement and that their concerns about Anthem are still not being addressed. The disappointment and frustration felt by many is only increased by the sheer number of features of Act 1, which are on the list of delays.
The original Anthem roadmap stated that April would be bursting with extra content. Players were promised a mastery system, new items, seven new freeplay events, new missions, a new stronghold, leaderboards, guilds, and a weekly stronghold challenge.
However, almost everything has now been delayed. Worse still, there is absolutely zero indication of when any of it might be coming out. There has also been a delay to Cataclysm, a limited-time event that was promoted prior to the game’s release and was due to release in May.
The full list of delayed features includes:
- Mastery System Guilds Legendary Missions – Phase II Weekly Stronghold Challenge Leaderboards Some freeplay events Cataclysm
This means that of the 14 lots of extra content listed on the roadmap for April, we have only seen new stronghold, Sunken Cell, and some of the freeplay events. The rest of the features, most of which were designed to bring a much-needed focus to end-game, are all now under the always-ominous label of “coming soon.”
The rest of the statement simply says that BioWare acknowledges concerns and is “working towards” solutions. It finishes with the following: “We know you have been waiting for these updates, and that you might not be pleased with where we are today. We understand and respect these perspectives. The only thing we can say is this – We Believe in Anthem. We believe the game will be great, but we recognize getting there will take a lot of hard work. We want to do that work and we want you all to join us on the journey to get there.”
At this point, BioWare might be the only one left still believing in Anthem. Hopefully, we’ll get more updates soon.
