While the PlayStation 5 hasn’t been fully revealed at this point, in contrast to the Xbox Series X’s appearance at The Game Awards, details and rumors regarding the next-gen console are starting to trickle down. Now, this includes a rumor about the PS5 controller and its design via a released render.

Coming from LetsGoDigital graphic designer Giuseppe Spinelli, the render with the PlayStation 5 controller looks fairly identical to DualShock controllers that have come before it. In specific, the PS5 controller will look incredibly similar to the PlayStation 4 controller if the renders from Spinelli are accurate to some degree.

As noted by BGR, the designs from Spinelli are inspired by patents for the PS5 controller filed back in November. There were eight images of the controller in the patent. As such, there is likely a high degree of accuracy in Spiinelli’s renders, especially if the patent goes through. The renders can be seen in a YouTube video from Spinelli below.

These images are in stark contrast to the PS5 controllers that were rumored to be patented over a week ago. Previously, the controller looked like a large rectangular block with a screen in the center of it, which is a far cry from the DualShock design that gamers have become familiar with and that appears to be the actual design of the PS5 controller.

If the concept renders are true, then it will work comfortably for PS4 users. The only noticeable difference is that the PlayStation 5 controllers appear somewhat bulkier. Otherwise, the controller’s face buttons, touchpad, sticks, and triggers all look very similar to the PS4 controller layout.

On a similar note, the design of the PS5 console is considerably less conventional than the design depicted by the controller renders. Whereas the PlayStation consoles have usually been rectangular, the PS5 devkits have more of a square shape with an indent on the top of the console. Of course, the devkit console may not be the final design, nor the controller renders. We have yet to know for sure, but more information about the PS5 can certainly be expected in the first half of 2020 before its holiday 2020 release window.
