Animal Crossing: New Horizons was finally made playable during PAX East this year, allowing eager fans to get a taste of the game before it launches later this month. According to USgamer, the demo appears to have some features not yet shown in any previews.

While last week’s Nintendo Direct gave us a lot of information about Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there were some things that had yet to be fully detailed. PAX East’s demo, for instance, illustrated the addition of new animals to the game. There were new fish that had apparently been seen in the demo, though a new snapping turtle was also present.

A video from GameXplain also shows the return of an old-school mechanic from the original Gamecube title: the ability to alter the camera’s point of view. While the camera isn’t fully adjustable, a click of the right thumbstick can give the camera a more top-down perspective instead of its usual angular one.

As can be seen in the above video about six minutes in, the click of the right thumbstick slowly zooms out the camera. This is a minor addition but one that fans of the original Animal Crossing will nonetheless appreciate.

“Welcome” doormats are also a new feature in the game. Of course, this is more just for aesthetic value. However, they are now placable within homes, so players are no longer limited to plain rugs. “Welcome” doormats can offer the warmth that other floor mats don’t.

Character creation options in relation to gender are also less limited now. Previously, specific customization options, such as hairstyles and clothes, were only allowed for specific genders. Now, these options are widely available to both genders.

Kicks the Skunk returns to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, though he has expanded his inventory to items like handbags and leggings. Before, Kicks had been limited to selling shoes.

Given all the new things seen from PAX East’s demo, there is likely even more content that hasn’t been revealed. The game will be arriving shortly, on March 20, so we’ll find out then what we have been missing. Until then, we can bask in the bevy of gameplay videos from the demos at PAX East.
