Amiibo card packs will cost £3.49 each when they go on sale later this year, the Nintendo Store has revealed.

Each pack will include 3 random cards, including 1 special amiibo card and 2 regular amiibo cards, and, as with standard amiibos, feature NFC technology to let players beam additional content and functionality into supported titles.

In the case of the first series of cards, which are themed around Animal Crossing, players can touch each card to a New Nintendo 3DS XL to design rooms for new characters in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, or use them in minigames in Wii U’s Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival.

Special amiibo cards unlock a brand new character that is only obtainable via card packs, while regular cards instantly unlock additional villagers that would ordinarily be unlocked through gameplay.

“Hundreds of character cards” will roll out over time, although they aren’t all expected to be available at launch. The cards will also be compatible with the old 3DS and 3DS XL’s upcoming NFC Reader/Writer.

The first series of Animal Crossing amiibo cards arrive in the UK alongside Happy Home Designer on October 2.
