All Xbox One consoles can now be turned into dev kits, Microsoft announced at Build 2016 yesterday.

With Xbox Dev Mode it’s now possible for developers to build and experiment with Universal Windows Platform to test their apps and games.

The mode is only currently available in a preview environment, however, and as such should currently only be used by experienced developers. But it won’t be long until the final Dev Mode launches with a new Windows 10 Anniversary Update coming this summer.

The anniversary update promises to bring together the best of the Xbox Store with the best of the Windows Store to create a single unified store across devices. The Anniversary Update will also bring the Cortana assistant to Xbox One, and will eventually lead to the implementation of some of the most-requested fan features, like Background Music on Xbox One.

“Cortana will get smarter over time to become your personal gaming assistant and help you find great new games, new challenges or help you with tips and tricks,” says Microsoft.

Look out for more announcements relating to Anniversary Update features for Xbox One and gaming on Windows 10 at E3 2016 in June.
